rnMastering the art of persuasion is something that will literally change your life beyond belief. Being able to persuade or convince someone that your point of view is correct, or that they should do something that you request is one of the powerful skills anybody can have. In this article you are going to learn a couple of persuasive language techniques that will increase your chances of successfully persuading something without them realizing. They are very easy-to-use, and very powerful when used correctly. One of the most simple yet effective persuasive language techniques is the correct use of the word “because.” This one simple word has the ability to change how your requests are viewed by others, and using it correctly will create sympathy for your cause or argument and therefore massively increase your chances of successfully being persuasive. Basically, in order to use “because” correctly as part of a covert persuasion phrase you need to first make your statement or request, and then follow this up with a logical and understandable reason starting with the word “because.” In order to explain this concept further, here are a couple of example phrases that correctly use “because” for the purpose of being more persuasive- 1) “May I please use the coffee maker because I am thirsty and need a drink?” This is far more effective than saying “I am thirsty and need a drink, may I use the coffee maker?”rn2) “This car is the perfect model for you because it offers both economy and practicality” Rather than something along the lines of “This car is economical and practical and is therefore ideal for you.” Using “because” is so effective as this phrase adds credence to what you are saying and makes your reasoning/argument seem more genuine and convincing. There have been studies carried out, which suggest that using this one simple word will increase your acceptance rate by almost 50%. It is definitely worth using this persuasive language technique wherever possible. Another element of covert spoken persuasion that you should implement into daily use is the art of “mirroring”. This involves using the mannerisms, facial expressions, hand gestures, and language of the person you are trying to persuade in order to build a rapport as quickly as possible. The best thing about using this method is that it does not take much to become skillful at using it. I would suggest that you start by noticing any particular phrases or words that the person uses, and then implement these into your language when talking to them, with a similar level of regularity. Try to ensure that you sound as natural as possible, so for example if you speak with a very refined vocabulary you would need to lower your entire register if you were speaking to someone who used lots of slang; only throw in individual words if you can make it sound natural. In this article you have learned two persuasive language techniques you can use that will enable you to have a much greater chance of success when attempting to persuade or convince somebody. From one simple word used correctly in a sentence, to “mirroring” the language and mannerisms of somebody else, minor changes in the way you act and speak will skyrocket your level of persuasive power.
