For manufacturing firms, improving productivity has always been a major concern. For production managers, it has been a real challenge. Fortunately, there have been experiments, findings and studies on how to boost productivity. After quite some time, there are many methods were tested, tried and proved effective and now have been used by many firms. They come up with a variety of configurations, but they are the same strategies basically. One of the most effective methods had been used was to analyze, measure and set goals for improvement. Then a plan to improve productivity was designed and worked on. Below are some other methods. The problems were drawn from actual cases which include actual strategies and solutions which were made accordingly. Real-time targets One of the recurring problems of the employees is being reported of production targets when too late. A method of correcting this is presenting real-time targets. This strategy is for providing real time information for the employees on real production targets. These can be displayed in a job-based targets or a shift for every employee to refer to. This target should be displayed on real time, calculated on the fundament of the take-time of production (the length of manufacture). Actual count could be demonstrated, including production efficiency calculated as well as all factors of manufacture involved. In effect, employees can respond to the information telling them exactly the details of their job in terms of production targets. Reduced speed operation There are cases in which downtime events appeared to be in control, however the process of manufacture continues missing target production. This strategy is for checking on the reduced speed operations and small stops. Downtimes are identifiable easily since the whole process or the equipments are not working. Production monitors could be configured to show the number of reduced cycle speeds, small production stops, and normally-undetectable undetectable. Then, it would enable teams so that we can identify as well as correct problems when occurring in real time. Change-over time This should be displayed for everyone to see. Being informed the estimated time or the remaining to work completion will allow operators to determine the exactly time to start internal setup procedures. They are processes which can be handled within run time or operation, and is considered a very effective tool to reduce change-over time. Additionally, the production display must include an estimated time for completion which is based on the present speed or the number of the pieces to go. It must also include the change-over in-process time. Some firms make the color-coded displays everyone can respond with ease.
