Once you're more comfortable on the ice, you can try and let go off the rail. A tiny bravery should see you through that most important step. You need to only move away by an inch if you're too frightened as this'll help you grasp the rail whether or not you slip and fall. Simply bend at your knees a bit and let your arms and hands flail around freely as you do on the treadmill. Doing therefore will at last help you skate more readily on the ice.
