Those that watch Top Gear – BBC’s motoring show may have seen the Aston Martin Cygnet mentioned in the “news” part of the show. Jeremy Clarkson famously laughed off the idea of an Aston Martin city car, but the concept has come to reality – The Cygnet has been on show at the famous Harrods store in central London to mark its debut in 2011. New EU regulations mean car manufacturers have to sell a certain amount of small vehicles, to ensure Aston Martin meet this requirement they partnered with Toyota and produced the Cygnet which is fundamentally a Toyota IQ. The Aston martin Cygnet carries some traditional Aston Martin design cues such as the famous aluminium grille, side strake and inverted rear lights to create the distinguished Aston Martin look. The Cygnet is painted, trimmed and assembled by the same technicians as the ones putting the Aston Martin V8 Vantage in Chichester together. The Cygnet is highly appropriate for the environment for which it has been designed; it has ample performance and manoeuvrability for city use. It is light, compact and fuel-efficient yet also capable of carrying up to four people. It of course comes with Aston Martin's accomplished levels of luxury, comfort and quality. The small economical city car will help direct Aston Martin into an exciting future. The Aston Martin Cygnet will go into production in 2011 at the Aston Martin’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire in England. The car will be the eighth production car Aston Martin has introduced at its state-of-the art facility since 2004.
