Created in Keswick, England during 1564, the pencil was an implement used for writing and drawing and engineered from graphite and carbon. As the pencil developed, so did the pen, a piece of stationary used widely across the world and imperative to most individuals every day life. See, promotional pens. In 1795, Nicolas Conte who was a French chemist, brought the pencil to new heights encapsulating a further mix of clay and graphite and placing this into a wooden case once heated over a high heat. To cope with the high demand for pencils due to their growing popularity, Eberhard Faber erected a pencil factory in 1861 located in New York which coped with the influx of sales. It is thought that pens have been used in dome form or other since 500 BC when the ancient Indians would use bamboo sticks and bird feathers to create inscriptions. Egypt adopted similar methods by writing on papyrus. Pens were made from natural products which could be easily located and gathered such as reeds like sea rush. As the years passed by, the pen advanced and by 1907, the first solid ink fountain pen was introduced. Slavojub Eduard Penkala and budding entrepreneur Edmund Moster, got their heads together and formed Penkala-Moster, a pencil factory which was the biggest company of this industry in it's time. Still in business today, the company is known as TOZ-Penkala. Much to children's delight in the modern day, come 1960, the felt tipped pen was introduced. At this time however, it's main use was as a marker within industry. This style of pen was designed in Japan. 1980 saw the rollerball pen, offering a smoother writing implement and becoming increasingly popular in the home and the workplace. With it's popularity, the pen has emerged into not only a useful implement but also a novelty item sold in multi colours with names etched into them creating perfect gifts. The pen also provides a fantastic promotional resource for companies to print logos, phone numbers and email addresses. If holding a conference, or meeting with potential clients, handing out promotional stationary is a great way to ensure your brand is noted and remembered. It is also a good idea for those who want to make notes but have forgotten to bring a pen. Saves the embarrassment of asking. Pencils are also another great way for promotion and make a fantastic alternative to pens. With so many styles available there is something to suit everyone. You could choose a standard pencil or an older style wooden type, taking users back to their school days. Buying pens and pencils in bulk for promotional purposes will require research. Check reviews and prices throughout various sites to ensure you are going to get the best deal possible.
