Once upon a time there's no way on earth an article like this would be penned. After all, women were the only sex who really talked about the aging process - and just what it did to their body.

Suffice to say, times are changing. Men are becoming much more aware at just how they look after themselves, and many take care of their skin and the rest of their body just like a female always has done.

Through today's guide, we will now take a look at several areas that the typical man should tap into in a bid to age gracefully. Sure, the birth certificate figures are never going to change, but perceptions can and this is what today is all about.

Be aware of your metabolism

One of the biggest changes that a man will experience is a decrease in their metabolism. Back in their younger days, they were most probably stick-thin and could eat what they want and not pile any sort of weight on.

Well, as the years catch up with you, this no longer becomes the case. Your metabolism starts to slow down, and this is something that you need to factor in. You will need to change your diet, and perhaps tinker with the exercise plan that might not be serving you as well as it once was.

Ignore the hype about testosterone

Something that we will say about growing old is that you shouldn't always buy into all of the corny adverts that surround testosterone and similar hormones. Sure, we don't have quite as much of the T-word as we did in our younger days, but it's still there and there tends to be very few cases of guys medically needing more of this hormone.

Instead, just be smarter with your exercise. Also, don't forget that there are less harmful ways to aid your appearance. You don't have to turn to steroids and other supplements with nasty side effects, plastic surgery has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years and it might just take something like gynecomastia reduction to help you along your way.

It's not just about looking good

A lot of today's article has focussed on looking the part, but a lot can be said about what lives upstairs as well. In other words, make sure you stay on top of your mental health.

We've seen a surge of brain training apps over the years and while it can be tempting to ignore the marketing hype, some of them do work. Not only that, but old classics like socialising and reading can help your brain stay on-form no-end.

Stay on top of osteoporosis

Something else that tends to take hold of the aging man is osteoporosis. If we were to look at the figures, this is something that impacts men about a decade later than women, but it's still very prevalent.

In short, your bones become more fragile and fractures become a lot more common. Hip fractures are a common offender but in truth, anything is at risk.

What can help? If you turn to exercise regularly your bones will be all the better for it, while simple tips like staying away from alcohol and cigarettes can aid your plight as well.
