Principles of Homeopathy
Homeopathy operates under two principles: like produces like or that an effect resembles its cause and that the things, which have been in contact with each other, will continue to act with each other at a distance even if the physical contact is severed.
In the homeopathy college in Ontario, OCHM (Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine), their curriculum is based on these principles and explained it further according to their practice.
Like-cures-like
According to OCHM, a substance that is believed to cause the symptom is diluted and used to treat the same symptom. Any substance that is suspected to be the cause is believed to be an effected remedy when it is diluted enough because it intensifies the body's own healing mechanisms. This means that homeopathy works with the body's immune system.
The treatment focuses on the whole being of the person, it physical, mental and emotional aspect. Homeopathy college Ontario believes that this practice can be used in both chronic and acute conditions. It is also an effective preventive care because it improves the body's resistance against infections and illnesses.
Preparation of Homeopathic Medicine
Aside from the principles and theories behind the practice of Homeopathy, OCHM and other homeopathy colleges also train their students on the preparation of homeopathic remedies. It uses materials derive from fauna, floral and minerals, prepare by diluting the substances repeatedly. A part of this dilution process is called succussion. The medicines resulting from this processes is called 'potentized'.
During the process, the amount of the substance is actually negligible because they can no longer be detected, but according to homeopathy, the remedy increases it potency because the substance has imprinted the energy pattern on the remedy.
