Being awakened from sleep with extreme feelings of terror is an all too common occurrence for individuals and if you suffer from these occurrences it will be good to hear that there are now a few available treatments for panic attacks to ensure you can have a peaceful nights sleep. To help you get to sleep promptly, here are a few simple things to do before heading off to bed. One of the first things you may wish to attempt is meditation. Feelings of relaxation will overcome you as you simply sit and clear your mind while focusing on your breathing. Once you're relaxed, you can include visualization. Visualization is a technique that's similar to meditation. Lay down and close your eyes in a cozy chair. See if you can imagine a white light surrounding your whole body. Imagine the white light slowly shifts up your legs from your feet. This calming light is making each segment of your body that you feel completely calm. To prevent muscles spasms which will otherwise wake you up at night, just 10 minutes of light stretching can make a big difference. Deep breathing is another thing you should give a go. With your back upright, make sure that you are sitting in a comfortable spot. As deeply and naturally as you can, start breathing in and out. Stress will easily exit your body on each out-breath, which you follow by a slow, natural in-breath. You should also know that the beverages you drink before you go to sleep may affect the way you sleep. Water is the preferred drink, and drinks that contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, or soda, and alcoholic drinks should definitely be avoided in the evening. The reason is that alcohol and caffeine can keep you awake, and that reaction may be delayed until you are sleeping, when it will wake you up and interrupt your night's sleep. Yet another idea to help you sleep calmly through the night is for you to do something quiet that you enjoy before you go to bed. That might involve reading, watching TV, enjoying some calm music, or working on a hobby. Anything that you can enjoy quietly will help you to relax and recover from the pressures of the day. Any or all of the suggestions given earlier can be helpful in relaxing you so you can sleep peacefully, without having a panic attack.
