There are many people throughout the world that are suffering from frequent jaw pain. Many people think it might just be a passing phase, while others realize that it is probably a serious issue. One of the main causes of jaw pain is temporomandibular joint disorder or TMJ. If you think you might have this then you might want to first look at some of the symptoms that come along with TMJ.

First of all, TMH can cause your jaw to start throbbing painfully whenever you are chewing your food, yawning really wide, or even just talking. This can start off just being annoying but can quickly become quite painful if not taken care of. This is most usually in conjunction with the inability to open your mouth very wide. In serious cases, people might not even be able to open their mouths more than just a couple of inches.

Jaw pain that is caused by TMJ can also be associated with other pains in the body. You might feel some sharp pains in your neck and also in your shoulders. This can even affect your ears and have them hurt as well. You might even hear jaw clicking whenever you open your mouth to talk. Obviously, you will probably feel pain in your jaw joints, and your mouth muscles will be very tender and sore.

If these are some of the things that you are experiencing then there is a good chance that TMJ is the perpetrator. In order to fix these problems you will need to make sure that you see your dentist or other mouth specialist to help you come up with a solution. You may need to wear a mouth guard in order to help you realign your jaw and relieve stress on your jaw muscles. This is only a temporary solution, however, because many times the jaw can move back to its original position once the mouth guard has been removed and the pain will come back again.

Other methods of curing this pain would be to do some muscle relaxation techniques to help you relax your shoulders, neck and jaw muscles. You could try sleeping on your back since sleeping face down or on your side puts unnecessary pressure on your jaw.

If all else fails, you may want to look into getting surgery in order to fix the problem. While this is a last resort option, it may be completely worth it in order to get rid of the jaw pain.
