In the past people trying to find help with addiction for the first time seldom consider an inpatient drug rehab program as a solution. That outlook is rapidly changing considering the dismal success rates with outpatient drug rehab treatment. People are starting to see those struggling with an alcohol or other drug abuse problem, have a much better chance at beating the addiction with an inpatient drug rehab center. According to the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services, there are approximately 4,400 residential drug rehabs and hospital inpatient treatment programs as reported on March 31, 2008. Inpatient drug rehabs make up about 33 percent of the total addiction treatment facilities in the country, but only serve about ten percent of the combined treatment population. This leaves several hundred thousand addicts in need of effective treatment options. If you are looking for help choosing a drug or alcohol rehab program for yourself or a loved one, there are several important factors to consider. Drug and alcohol cravings are mental and physical. Unknown too many the physical cravings can create or contribute to the mental cravings. This takes time to overcome. Long term inpatient drug rehabs that handle the physical, mental and educational issues at hand provide the best chance at doing this. In looking at your options with inpatient drug rehab programs additional things to look at include location, cost, length of time, whether or not they work with your insurance, what other funding sources are available, and most importantly, what treatment methods are used and what kind of results are achieved. Many people feel overwhelmed when reaching for help. Use your own common sense and in doing so you’ll be quite surprised at your own ability to find the right drug rehab treatment. Unfortunately the system is set up to provide public funding for programs that do not always produce strong results, leaving some of the more successful alte ative programs to rely only on insurance and private payments. It is a public policy issue that needs to change so that more people have access to better treatment facilities. The only reason out patient programs exist is that’s all the insurance companies are willing to pay for. It can be a good idea in most situations to get the person out of their immediate environment, get away from their problems and more importantly drug addicted friends or family. While it does not necessarily mean flying across the country, it could. Many people go out of their current state to find a good program, while others may be fortunate enough to have the right facility within a few hours drive which can be far enough away most of the time. Not all inpatient drug rehab programs are the same, and please remember when you are searching for treatment centers you should choose the one that seems to make the most sense to you and then figure out how to enroll, rather than restricting yourself to a limited number of choices. There are many to consider.
