The golden rule for a person’s general well-being is that prevention is always better than cure. This is also true with our pets such as dogs especially because of their vulnerability to diarrhea. Dog diarrhea is actually a symptom that there is something wrong with your dog. If left untreated within twenty-four hours, this could further lead to more severe, riskier and more expensive condition. Therefore, as a dog owner you should be aware to prevent the causes of dog diarrhea. You should address the question: why does my dog have diarrhea? Let us know the answers now. 1. Diet. The most frequent cause of dog diarrhea is something that your pet has eaten. Remember that your dog is not as sensible as you are to distinguish between a food and non-food at all. Foreign objects and eating toxins or spoiled or poisoned food is a very common scenario. Examples are the theobromine found in chocolates and thiosulphate present in garlic or onions. Additionally, insecticides and other household chemicals can be toxic to your pet. So make sure to see what your dog is eating and make sure that they are full enough to feel hungry for a second meal. When there is a sudden change in your pet’s diet, it will most likely result to loose stools because of the upset in your pet’s digestive system. Hence, it is advisable to have a smoother shift of diet for your dogs and get rid of the problem. 2. Parasites and Bacterial or Virus Infection. These are also common causes of an upset stomach. Bacterial infections such as Campylobacter, Salmonella and E. Coli are the most prevalent bacterial reason for severe or serious diarrhea among dogs that may lead to inflammation as well as irritation in the digestive tract resulting tin gastroenteritis and frequent defecation. Such bacteria are present in animal stools and raw or uncooked poultry. 3. Stress. This is another very common cause of dog diarrhea. This is a usual situation especially if the dog has been moved to a new family or surroundings. You can prevent stress in most cases by removing the pet in a stressful environment or by letting your pet adapt to the changes that it will encounter. It is also important to know the causes of dog diarrhea in order to give the first remedy on the onset of sickness. However, why should we wait for it to happen if we could prevent it?
