Why Is It A Good Idea To Use URL Shorteners?

A few weeks ago I posted my regular daily newsletter on my webpage. Since this was a longer Wp Url, like countless other internet marketers, I used a URL shortening service to make this link more usable and controllable. Then I went on and published this shortened website link to Twitter and also mentioned it in my weekly e-newsletter. Immediately I began receiving emails from my members and fans. I tested immediately to see if this was indeed my mistake, but I immediately found that the shortening provider didn't work. The funny thing is that I was utilizing Google's own system, Goo.gl, and because of that everybody thought I made the error, I mean Google is Google. Before that I was utilizing the extremely well-known bit.ly but after that I turned to Goo.gl simply because like everybody else, I trust Google far more! I need to admit this was the very first time something was not functioning with Google as it was intended to. And it just wasn't my urls, none of the url links with Goo.gl were working. No biggie in case you weren't backlinking to Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday deals via the url shortener service. This made me think whether I should use an URL shortener at all? These services work by redirecting the longer Url you enter to a lot shorter one. If this is a permanent 301 redirect, your SEO features should go through to your longer hyperlink. No harm done. In this situation the redirection is simply a 302, or temporary redirection then search engines won't identify any link juice moving through your shortened URLs. A lot of the major shortening services use proper redirects - in case they're functioning! I only started utilizing those url shorteners because of Twitter that only provides you with 140 characters to make your point. The technique to utilize shortneres also allows you to spread your url links easier over the internet. It is also a good and easy way to cover up your affiliate marketer urls if you are into affiliate marketing. Just imagine, you've 10's, even 100's of thousands of these types of shortened links spread all around the net, bringing useful SEO PR back to your own website. There are pros and cons when using an URL shortener service. The easiest way is always to take advantage of them but in a controllable way, for instance by choosing services which have a good track record and are more well-known; but obviously you can (and maybe should) add less popular ones to the mix also. Spreading your shortened URLs across a few of the major and less well-known services is a wise strategy! You should use one assistance for links in your eBook, short reports, etc., then one other for your blog, Twitter and many others.
