Yet you can’t survive for more than a few days without it. In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about it’s water – the most important nutrient needed by the body. Our bodies are 50 to 70 percent water (about 10 to 12 gallons). Males generally have more body water than females because they tend to have less body fat. Water is also found in blood (83 percent), muscle (73 percent), fat (25 percent), and bone (22 percent). Water is essential for many ongoing chemical reactions in the body. It helps regulate body temperature through perspiration, transports nutrients and other substances throughout the body, aids digestion, carries away waste in the sweat and urine, and lubricates the joints. The average adult needs 8 to 12 glasses of water daily for optimal health. This will replace water that is lost every day (10 cups) through perspiration, urination, respiration, and bowel movements. Fluid needs are also dependent on the calorie intake. The human body requires about one quart of water for every 1,000 calories consumed. Thirst is the body’s way of saying that you need water. But it is not a reliable indicator since experts say that there is already slight dehydration by the time you get thirsty. Because of this, you should drink plenty of water daily from a variety of foods and beverages. “It doesn’t all have to come straight out of the tap. Juices and milk are also good sources, as are most fruits and vegetables, which may be composed of as much as 80 to 90 percent water. But don't rely too heavily on caffeine-containing beverages, particularly coffee. The diuretic properties tend to pull water out of the body, defeating the intended purpose,” according to Drs. Fredrick Stare and Elizabeth Whelan of the American Council of Science and Health in “Fad-Free Nutrition.” Water is likewise needed for healthy skin. It helps skin cells function properly and keeps the skin soft and smooth. Without water, the skin becomes dry, leathery, and wrinkled. Dry skin is not only unsightly but it can also be itchy and painful. “Water flushes out toxins, especially from your vital organs. It also carries nutrients to your cells, and provides a moist environment for your throat, ears, and nose tissues. Your body needs water in order to function properly. Not getting an adequate amount of water each day can lead to dehydration, disease, and an overall feeling of sickness and tiredness. When you drink the recommended amount of water each day, which is between 8 and 12 glasses of water per day, you will feel healthier, have more energy and you will look better as well,” said Adrienne Dumas in BellaOnline.com. To preserve your skin’s natural beauty, drink plenty of water everyday, especially if you have an active lifestyle. And if you want to have wrinkle-free skin, use Dermaxin, a popular anti-aging cream that revitalizes the skin to fight the signs of aging. For details, check out http://tinyurl.com/8jkw6marn
