Joe White started Get Life Coaching in his basement with one client in 1999. Today he has offices in Wilmington and Delaware City and has coached hundreds of individuals and businesses and thousands have attended his seminars and speaking engagements.

Joe's passion and drive to help others comes from his own life experience. 15 years ago Joe was caught in the addiction to drugs and alcohol. His life's turning point came when he purchased a set of self-help audiotapes from a late night infomercial. It was in that moment his life changed. Joe used those tapes to help break himself free from his addiction. He listened to the tape series over and over again for five years. Joe became fascinated with learning why we do what we do and how we can get what we want.

Today, Joe White is a leader in personal and professional development. He also conducts life coaching certification courses and has trained therapist and counselors in his coaching techniques. I do enjoy motivational speakers. Their words act as a blast of positive energy but just as the perk of coffee fades and the charge of a Red Bull diminishes, so does motivation. Somewhere along the way, we must find motivation from the inside out. Yes, it is great to have reminders but when all that reminds us is from the outside, we feel we are on a long deserted highway and our fuel tank is on "E". We are praying that we will find a gas station before we run out of gas. I often get labeled as a Motivational Speaker- nothing could be further than the truth.

It was 15 years ago and my life was different. Growing up I didn't plan on being a drug addict. I came from a good family, parents who loved each other and their kids. As a matter of fact this year they are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. All the love and good upbringing didn't matter as my dreams were replaced with a constant pain that could only be numbed by a drink or a drug. I woke everyday with the thought that this day was going to be my final day of using and ended each night chasing my high. Rock bottoms were replaced by a lower low. And this was my life for 8 years.

It just feels safe. We just seek protection. Our intention is not to hurt anymore, almost at any cost. The feelings of pain, disappointment, unanswered questions all weigh upon us and we must seek relief. As a defense mechanism or a survival skill we cut ourselves off from the pain's source. We choose to disconnect from the depth of our pain so we can manage ourselves through life. Time passes and wounds heal. The sting fades and ability to function returns. We have seemingly been able to return to the routine of life but something is different.

In the late 1800's a popular attraction was a Flea Circus. "Trained Fleas" were kept in a cigar box. When the lid would open, the fleas would jump in the box. So what do you have in common with an ordinary flea? The interesting fact about the fleas in the flea circus is that they never jump out of the box. They would only jump the height of the cigar box even though they had the potential to jump 8 to 10 inches. They were trained by keeping the lid on the cigar box for a long time. They would jump up, hit the lid and bounce down.

Mid Week Momentums

"Only from the heart can you touch the sky."

Rumi

Our heart offers our greatest gifts. It needs to be free so that it can liberate our lives and others. So often we feel our hearts are fragile. Nothing can be further from the truth. Our heart is strong and resilient and is always capable of giving more. Even in the face of pain. Don't underestimate the power that lies within you.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream."
Paulo Coelho

Fearing what is unknown will paralyze you. Your head distorts the past as it projects pain in the future. You must go into your heart for your solution. Your heart is always in the present, always whispering what is true. Go into your heart for your guidance and listen.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"A certain amount of opposition is a great help to a man. Kites rise against, not with the wind."
John Neal

As a child, stomping your feet never got you what you wanted. Blaming others or events will never get you what you want either. All things in life are here to serve you. Seek meaning that liberates and adds rather than meaning that enslaves and subtracts.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"You embrace that which defines you."
Donna Cook
Comedian Dane Cook's Mother

Stay below the radar. Don't make waves. Keep your mouth shut. Be seen but not heard. Don't draw attention to you. Play it safe. Settle for what you can. You are too old. I am glad Lance Armstrong never said any of those words.

Congratulations on a podium finish in the Tour de France and thank you for giving millions hope.

"Everything will be OK in the end; If it's not OK, it is not the end."
Child cancer patient, Jordan, telling her parents not to worry

Our spirit is indomitable; our soul is ete al. What we perceive is unconquerable is only unconquerable is our own thoughts. Trust the inner guidance and the forces that lead you. Believe when others doubt and hold onto your dreams. Nobody can ever take them away from you.

"In the end it comes down to what you accept for yourself or what you won't."
Joe White

We create our own reality and that is the truth. The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the height of your standards. Winners will do what losers are not willing to do. What separates Tiger Woods from the pack is far more than just talent. It is what he is willing to accept or not accept. Raise your standards and never settle. Settling is the way we rationalize that we are fearful of reaching for more.

Define your own standards.

"Love is the difference that makes the difference."

Joe White

As humans we are capable of great achievement. We can climb Mt Everest. Put a man on the moon. We can do so much. The one thing that we can only achieve through love is emotional intimacy. It's the connection and understanding that runs far deeper than physical intimacy. Although all are capable, many balk at the price that we must pay for such a gift - courage, trust, vulnerability, and honesty.

Once you choose hope, anything's possible."

Christopher Reeve

It is far too easy to give up and give in. People, events, and circumstances become an all too convenient excuse to throw in the towel and give up on hope. We must never let go of hope. In the presence of hope comes enormous opportunity. The opportunity is to rise above the lowest common denominator and become more. Hope is the prerequisite of your dreams. Honor and guard it well.

"So, that's what I wish for all of you: the bad as well as the good. Fall down, make a mess, break something occasionally. And remember that the story is never over."

Conan O'Brien

Success is often born from the pits of failure. Life is a lot like Texas Hold 'Em poker. Betting the table minimum every hand may keep you in the game for a long while but you will never win the tou ament. If you love your hand - you must go all in. You may occasionally lose but you can also win big. Life is designed to be lived all in. It is meant to get a bit dirty and chipped. It gives us character.

Do not be afraid of failing but rather be afraid of never being in a place where you could fail.

"Every man is guilty of all the good he didn't do."

Voltaire

It is so easy to make excuses for not doing what is right. The "right" choice is usually not the easy choice. We all have our reasons, our justification but at the end the truth is plain. We have a choice to be agents of change; a force for good or we can resign to being a willing participant as a bystander.

We must decide who we are and what we will our lives represent.

"The price of hating other human beings is loving oneself less."

Eldridge Cleave

Grudges and resentments steal the light from our hearts. Pain becomes comfort when we believe in the illusion of loss. We have nothing; we own nothing other than who we are at our core. All in life is rented from the breath we breathe to the love we share. We all have choice to be beautiful or ugly on the inside. No makeup or success can hide the ugliness of hatred. We are who we are and become more of what we share.

"Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing
that we see too late the one that is open."

Alexander Graham Bell

Moments never last forever. We must focus on what we have - not what we don't have or we may end up with nothing. There are always options. They may not be the options we want but they could be the choices we need to make.

"Just because you are not where you were,
it doesn't mean you are where you want to be"

Joe White

Moving and destination are two separate things. Confusing the two will leave you settling for feeling better instead being fulfilled. When pain becomes too great we will eventually do anything to get out of pain. Even if where you end up is a lesser version of the pain or a different type of pain, it is a welcomed change.

We must not accept a lesser or different pain for the sake of reaching our desired destination. Different doesn't always mean better but when different leads to fulfillment - it is always the best.

"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us."

ALBERT SCHWEITZER

We all have a choice to how we live our lives. We can inspire or tear down. We can set the standard or live by the lowest common denominator. All is within your power. It always easier to step aside; it is always right to step up.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"With the power of conviction, there is no sacrifice."
Jim Rohn

Our strongest beliefs are our convictions. For what you desire at the deepest level must reside at the level of conviction. Unwavering belief for what you seek.

Trade no more your dreams for comfort. Go all in. If you love your hand then you must go all in. Playing not to lose usually results in a loss. Stay true to your heart, desires, and dreams.

"Don't volunteer for an execution"
Donald Trump

On Sunday's episode of the Apprentice, Donald Trump fired Tionne Watkins simply because she volunteered to come back to the boardroom where she could become fired. Tionne felt she was safe after a stellar performance the previous week.

There are times that we stay in a relationship knowing it does not meet our needs, or at a job we know which leaves us unfulfilled or live a life inauthentic, away from our deepest desire and purpose.

Never allow yourself to be a victim of your own life.

"Fear is Bulls@*t"

Graduates From March 28th Breaking Through The Barrier

It was near the end of my 12 plus hour Breaking Through The Barrier seminar when the group adopted the mantra "Fear is Bulls@*t. It became a valuable resource for the final part of the seminar. Each participant broke a 1 inch board with their bare hands. To do so they had to let go of limiting beliefs and fear to turn the impossible to possible.

Fear cripples us. It suffocates our life. It takes away our ability to respond. Go beyond what you fear and think is possible and turn fear into power.

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."

John Lennon

We wait for the perfect moment - to open our hearts, to try a new career, to follow a new path. As we wait to begin the next part of our lives, we miss the part of our lives in which we are living right now. The minutes, days, years pass by and we are still waiting and still wasting precious moments. The time to live is always now. Fortunes favor the brave!

"We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen. Every day, God gives us the sun-and also one moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy."
Paulo Coelho

I heard this once, "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans". Life is not a straight line. It is filled with bends and turns, hills and valleys, and unexpected moments. The moment that changes everything could be next. Keep your eyes and heart open for what lies next; it could make perfect sense.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"Change is not something we do; it is rather something we become."
Joe White

For the past 10 years I have worked with people from all walks of life. They have come to seek a change - from depression to addiction, from relationship to career. Common thought is often that if we change what we do, we change who were are. Change is never automatic. In the end, it is we who must change. Transformation is an inside out job. Don't settle for the quick fix feeling of changing what you do. Reach down on the inside for your greatest self.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"Death is not the biggest fear we have; our biggest fear is taking the risk to be alive -- the risk to be alive and express what we really are."
Don Miguel Ruiz

Living authentic may sound enticing and makes for great book titles but the truth is that very often we choose to be less than authentic. We choose to wear a mask, hide and protect ourselves. We say, "I am not like that" or "I can never change."

The truth is that we are being gutless. We are trading safety for living, comfort for growth. Shakespeare said, "To thy own self be true", which presupposes we are willing to be "thy own self."

As we await the rebirth of spring, take this moment to allow the authentic you to breathe the breath of life again.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"We can always choose to perceive things differently. You can focus on what's wrong in your life, or you can focus on what's right."

Marianne Williamson

Turn on the news, pick up the newspaper, talk to your neighbors, and all you hear is fear. It is to easy to allow your focus to fall on what you fear. The law of focus is simple. Whatever you focus on you get.

The truth of the matter is that these are difficult times and these are beautiful times too. A family is blessed with a birth of a child, two hearts become one, a doctor tells her patient, "Congratulations, you are cancer free," someone witnesses an unforgettable sunset - all of these are happening right at this moment.

So what will you focus on? Faith or fear? Love or hurt? Belief or doubt? Hope or despair? The evidence is there; it all depends on where your focus leads you.

I wish you a week of love and passion.

"The Time of My Life"
David Cook

We cannot hold love and bitte ess at the same time. They work against each other. When things go wrong it is easy for us to take residence in bitte ess and disappointment. There is a certain comfort that bitte ess breeds but it comes with a cost.

Learning to let go of bitte ess liberates us and allows love to return to our heart and core. The spirit awakens and dreams are dreamed again. Give into love.

I am no one special. Just a common man with common thoughts. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who ever lived. I've loved another with all my heart and soul and for me that has always been enough

From "The Notebook"

So is Valentine's Day a day you cherish or you find intolerable? Love and relationships magnify our human experience. The highs are higher and of course, the lows are lower. Yet, it is in the anticipation of the highs that keep us coming back.

Whether you have the love you want or you're healing from lost love, searching for the love you want or questioning if it is time to move on - our lives become more when we celebrate love. Love is never to blame for the heartaches. Love has never let you down; only people have let you down.

The way to receive more love is to give more love. If it is not with whom you wish, then find someone who needs to feel loved and give them love. If you are blessed with the love in your life, cherish it and rejoice as it's the way we find our strength in vulnerability.

I wish you a week of love and passion.
