Teaching Kids Time Managment
I want to teach my children that there are definitely times when things need to get done immediately. For example, if we have guests coming over, I will expect that their room needs to be cleaned "right now". But it is also important for me to teach them to take responsibility for something I've asked them to do within a flexible range of time and for them to learn how make choices regarding when they would like to do that task. They may have clothes that need to be put away,

The Mom Who Doesn't Know Everything
It's hard to admit that I don't always know what to do when it comes to my kids. It's frustrating. And humbling. My daughter has bee "stuck" with her reading for several months now. She began the school year as one of the top readers in her class. But while the rest of her classmates have made steady improvements, and have even passed her reading level, my sweet girl has barely shown any improvement in her reading ability. For months I've watched her use all the right readi

Favorite Quotes & Thoughts from Tara Wood
Most parents seem to make parenting way harder than it needs to be. It makes me sad when I hear so many parents joke about how "at least they only have to endure 18 years with each child." I think being a parent is one of the most awesome, fun, life-changing experiences and I'm so honored that I was given the opportunity to be a parent. While there are definitely times parenting is a challenge, generally speaking, parenting is fun and my kids are a blast! I'm passionate about sharing what I know about how kids learn and develop and how to use great parenting techniques for the purpose of helping other parents know the joy and ease of parenting without having to yell or scream or beat your kids up. All this AND have a great relationship with your kids that will last a lifetime!
I believe that it is completely possible to have well-behaved, respectful, loving children while also taking care of their heart. We can have children who take ownership for their own behavior, make great choices and also know how to love, be compassionate, and feel valued as an individual. As parents, our role is to be a child's teacher. In everything we do with our kids, what are we teaching them and what are they learning from us? In some cases, this also means we take a good hard look at how we as Mom and Dad are modeling the behavior we expect from our children both in our interactions with our kids and our interactions with each other.
