The greeting card which an individual designs on his/her own can be as eye-catching and meaningful as a readymade store-brought card, if these steps are followed to design it: 1.Use right greeting card software – If the designer has already bought card making software, then he can utilize it. If he is new to this field, Greeting Card Studio is a good software application which has many greeting card templates to help in designing cards. 2.Determine type of card – Prior to designing, determine what type of card is needed: serious, funny, top fold, size fold, over-sized etc. For this, the designer should have a clear idea that for whom and for what occasion he is making the card. 3.Open blank document to start designing greeting card – If the greeting is to be created from scratch, begin with a blank document. Else, the designer should choose the template from the available template library. 4.Select graphics – If the design of the card has to be kept simple, insert 1 image or 2-3 simple and small images. Clip arts are given in the greeting card software to choose from and insert in the card. 5.Edit images – Images can be inserted in the card without editing also, but sometimes little change to size or color of an image makes the appearance of the card better. 6.Select font color professionally – Using fewer fonts in the greeting card becomes unprofessional and using more fonts becomes little distracting. So, choose the color which contrasts with paper color or the color which appears in the selected clip art. 7.Arrange text & graphics properly – Whether the design of the card is simple or complicated, use grid to arrange graphics, text and other objects in the card. Try to balance white or empty spaces, and do not fill every inch with graphics or text. 8.Give consistent look – Try to give consistent look to the card’s front and inside. Use complimentary or matching fonts & graphics. 9.Insert credit contour – Now, a master piece is ready and it is the time to insert credit contour to it. For example: If the card is meant for a patron, it is good to include company’s name and phone number etc. 10.Print the greeting card – Click ‘print’ button present on the software in order to print the card. One can print as many copies as needed.
