Below is a list of 10 lawn care tips that are important to anyone with a lawn. Lawn Care Tip # 1: If you live on or near some dusty roads, you can be sure that your lawn may be suffering. Do you know that the photosynthesis rate could be greatly reduced even with a light layer of dust? You should wash the lawn with water and detergent every few days or when it looks like it needs cleaning. Do not use antibacterial soap, as this will leave your lawn streaked with yellow. Lawn Care Tip # 2: If you live in a forest fire risk area, try using grass that can help reduce the risk of fire. These lawns are available from your local lawn care store. A good combination of grass that would work is Canada bluegrass, wheatgrass, sheep fescue, and bluegrass. Lawn Care Tip # 3: If there are shady sections on your lawn, you can let the shaded grass grow bigger than the grass in the sunny sections. This will help make it look better. And remember to prune some of the dense branches to let in more light. Lawn Care Tip # 4 - Earthworms are good for your lawn. Try to attract more earthworms to your garden with organic lawn fertilizer. This will attract earthworms like ants to honey. Lawn Care Tip # 5: Try to spread a thin layer of organic matter on your lawn frequently. Mushroom compost is a good option. This is what mushrooms grow on mushroom farms. It is composed of substances such as horse manure, straw, plaster and limestone. You can apply it like you would with regular compost. Lawn Care Tip # 6: Mowing the lawn with a lawn mower can help you use less fertilizer. This mower drops cut grass clippings onto the ground where they will decompose faster. Typical grass clippings contain 4% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 3% potassium, which are about the same as many organic fertilizers. Lawn Care Tip # 7: If after mowing, the grass appears less green and has a tan hue, then your mower blades are likely blunt because a sharp blade cuts the top leaving a thin line of tan on top of each blade. However, a blunt blade rips through the grass leaving a jagged edge and large wounded area that turns brown. A few days after mowing the lawn with a blunt blade, the lawn will be brownish-green. http://www.lawncarehawaii.com/ Lawn Care Tip # 8: When lawns get enough moisture, they don't worry about being trampled. However, if the grass doesn't get enough water, it doesn't have enough strength to recover from stomping. So, make sure that every time you water your lawn, the humidity reaches 6 to 8 inches below the surface. This will help build strong, deep roots that can withstand periodic drought. Lawn Care Tip # 9 - Do not water your lawn at night as this is bad for your lawn. You should be aware that watering encourages the brown patch and other fungal diseases. Watering the lawn between 5 and 8 a.m. is strongly recommended. Lawn care tip # 10: Too much salt in soft water can kill your lawn, so make sure your external taps are not connected to the water softener system.
