100 Million Facebook Apps Downloaded

An app store called GetJar has announced that users at their site have downloaded Facebook's app over one hundred million times. It's the first application that has hit this milestone marker on GetJar.com. It has aligned with recent studies of the market for smartphones, showing that more than half the Facebook downloads were done with Nokia phones, although Android phones are a faster growing platform at GetJar.

It has been an eventful week for GetJar, which also launched a simple way for consumers and publishers to share apps. It's called App It!, and it automatically assigns a URL to each app that is uploaded. It has been found that global brands realize that although apps provide their users with engaging and rich experiences, they need to provide users with one destination, to make the distribution of apps easier. This is as opposed to sending their users to multiple stores, dependent on what type of smartphone they might be using.

The Facebook app download is one sign of the domination of Facebook on the worldwide web. As if Facebook wasn't already the biggest social networking website of all time, it may go bigger soon. The company Hitwise, which researches site traffic, has stated that almost one fourth of U.S. traffic on the Internet went onto the Facebook site during the week that ended November 13, 2010. The growth of Facebook has shown a sixty percent increase over last year's.

Even though there isn't a native Facebook app for Android phones as yet, you can also find Facebook apps from Babbler and Bloo. These two companies offer users Facebook features for open-source phone users by building Android apps for Facebook. The apps look very good, and they are impressive, since they each run through the APIs of Facebook.

Bloo supports wall to wall posting, status updates, photos and YouTube videos. You are able to comment on any posts in your stream, and your feed activity is green in color, to highlight it. You also have many photo features. And when you use friends' profiles to merge their contact information into your phone, you can use Bloo to text or call that person. You can upload photos directly to Facebook, and get Facebook Events and event histories.

Babbler offers features that are similar to those of Bloo. When you use the Babbler app for Facebook, you can see friends' profiles, where you are able to like wall posts, write on walls and make comments. You can catch your News Feed, and update your status, and even browse your friends' photographs.
