Managing your goals essentially boils down to personal management, how you manage your "self" over a period of time. How you manage yourself over a period of time is what's known as time management, which is the essence of life management. Life management is about taking control over your ability to respond, your response-ability towards situations and events. As the awareness of your need to be responsible grows, so does your ability to consciously influence the sequence of events in your life that you desire to act upon. n
Whether you believe it or not, we always have the choice to choose our response to any situation. It's this ability that is part of the divine gift that makes us human and separates us from animals. When we shed our animal instincts you become aware to the fact that you are always free to choose where you focus your attention. Where your attention goes energy flows and results will show, so if you want to see where you've been paying the most attention just take a look around. If where you have put your attention in the past makes you unhappy or uncomfortable, then chances are you are ready to commit to making some changes. This is important because the commitment to action is the crucial first step of setting any goal. n
One of the most important keys to achieving any goal you set is the process that determines what, where, why, and how much to focus your attention. Your ability to choose between the important and the unimportant is the key determinant of your success in life and business. Effective, productive people discipline themselves to start on the most important task that is before them. The ability to concentrate on the next task in sequential order from start to finish is a challenging habit to acquire. Goal achievers make a habit of forcing themselves to complete whatever it is that they don't particularly want or like to do. As a result, they accomplish vastly more than the average person and are much happier as a result. n
