Is your 2012 New Year’s resolution to lose weight, eating healthier, getting stay in shape, learning more on nutrition? The Obesity Epidemic is getting worse each year and needs to be addressed city by city, county by county, region by region, and country by country. The New Year brings people with their Resolution of dieting and healthy living. However, the weight loss journey can be daunting and many of those with resolve gradually revert to old habits. There are many tips and tricks that will help your weight loss process turn into a great new lifestyle.rnOne of the first tips I teach in nutrition classes is WATER WATER WATER. Your water intake should be a minimum of half ½ of your body weight with a minimum of 8 cups for adults. Gradually increase to this amount if you aren't drinking water adding more each day. If you don't like water, drink it anyway...really...the only thing that is okay to add and still count toward your water intake are real fruits. In addition, drinking a cup of water prior to eating will trick your body into feeling full which helps you eat less. Water is essential in weight loss and in general health. When your body feels thirsty it is already dehydrated. It is evident, in s Weight Loss Challenge, who hasn’t been drainking their daily intake of water. There is a vast difference of inches and weight lost. rnAnother tip that makes a big difference is eating every 1 ½ - 3 hours ensuring the right amount of protein for your body - too much can impede your weight loss results and too little will also hinder your progress. Protein helps maintain lean muscle and eating 1/2 of your bodies weight in grams will give you an initial place to start with your intake. In addition to the protein eaten throughout the day, eating protein immediately upon waking and immediately before going to bed will increase your success. This speeds your weight loss results and keeps your metabolism at a constant. rnA great way to help control the amount of food eaten is to use a smaller plate. People tend to fill their plates, regardless of size, seemingly following the aged old advice “eat everything on your plate”. You can do both just by using a smaller plate. If you control your portions you can still eat foods you love…everything in moderation. Even healthy foods, when overeaten can lead to weight gain and need to be eaten in moderation. Always stop eating before you are full. It takes you body 20 minutes to recognize that you are full, consequently many people continue eating. Do not eat anything for at least 20 minutes after eating your meal. rnMost people consume far more calories than their body needs. While losing weight your body must consume less calories than it burns. Eat 500 calories less than that of your Resting Metabolic Rate or 1200 calories, whichever is higher. rnFollowing these guidelines consistantly for 90 days will generally result in weight loss without counting or even trying. Keep track of everything that enters your mouth, whether a bite of your childs mac n cheese or a drink of orange juice, in a food diary. You aren't counting calories, logging is to help you recognize the extra you don’t realize you eat along with helping you see where your healthy eating plan is being compromised. It is crucial to be honest in order to make changes and improvements to your health, along with healthy changes to your daily food intake like those mentioned above. Understanding and implementing the many tips and tricks will help ease the body into eating healthier foods. rnGetting a Wellness Evaluation will tell information allowing the creation of a program specific to your body to see results faster.
