You will never find that management is easy - doing well requires a complex mix of skills. But because it is difficult, it is also easy to do it badly. This explains why, according to Gallup employees, we consistently maintain around 30% employee engagement, which means that around 70% of employees are not emotionally involved in their organization.
There is no point in becoming a long-term victim.
danger. What can you do about it? Which moves can you make to try to improve your destiny? Here are three basic steps that can help you make this a logical, non-emotional situation. These steps are a means of trying to understand ... work with if you can ... and take action if needed.
See things through the eyes of others. In other words, do your best to understand the problems with your manager's workplace - the stress and pressure of the company she feels and why they make it difficult for her. The more insight you can get into the problems of her business situation, the better. Ultimately, her stress may or may not make sense to you, but the exercise is worth trying, as it can provide valuable insight into her behaviour. And maybe it represents your best chance to change the dynamics of a difficult relationship.
Know when enough is enough. It is never an advantage to become a professional victim in the long run. If, after having done your utmost to understand what pressure your boss is making and making yourself as valuable as possible to him, it has become clear that this relationship will never work, know when to say when. Start looking around. It is much better to take constructive action than to suffer in silence. Tune your feet if you have to.
Three steps. Understanding. Become indispensable. Take action if needed.
All just common sense. But as I often say about management just because something is healthy does not mean that it is often applied.
