One of the easiest and most powerful ways to make money online is through affiliate marketing. However, in order to become successful on the Internet, certain techniques and tools are needed. Because there are many people selling the same products, it is important to develop a marketing strategy that will help you stand out from the crowd. While there is no magic formula, taking action using proven marketing practices will ultimately result in success.

Step 1 - Choosing a Product

Start with research on finding the best products to promote among the many offered through affiliate programs. An Internet search of affiliate networks will reveal many individuals or companies looking for you to promote their products. Although you can promote any offer that appeals to you, you may have more success choosing something in which you are interested or have a bit of expertise on the subject. That way, your natural enthusiasm will come through in your marketing.

Step 2 - Promotion

Usually all that is needed to get started with a product is to complete a simple application online. Many product developers automatically approve anyone who wishes to promote their products and will give you an immediate affiliate link. Set up a website or Wordpress blog featuring the product or service you want to promote. Make it rich in keywords and keyword phrases.

Your site can be a review, give tips on using the product, or anything positive you want to say. Have a separate blog or minisite for each product you want to promote. Include your affiliate link to send visitors to the product creator’s site with a call to action to buy the product. It is important to post an opt-in box on each blog or website so that visitors can sign up to your mailing list. Offer a free report on the same subject in return for their information. You can start to build an email list in that way to which you can market future products.

You can use your link to send in emails, post on social media sites, in forums or in other advertisements. Most product creators will give you ready-made emails and ads to use in your promotion. No matter where you post your affiliate link, when someone clicks on it and buys the product, you will be paid a commission.

3. Traffic

In order to make sales, people need to see your offer. You need the right kind of visitors to your site, called targeted traffic. These are people who have an interest in what you are promoting. If you do not have a large marketing budget, you will need to drive free traffic to your site to get started. Start by writing articles and publishing them in e-zines. A web search will reveal many places that accept articles. Be sure to read their requirements and terms of service. Write at least two or three articles a week with about 450 to 550 words, or whatever word count each e-zine will accept. If you keep marketing, you will begin to make sales and will ultimately become successful in your affiliate marketing endeavor.
