Our advice is that you read the three tips, thoroughly familiarize yourself with them, and then implement them into your own divorce. Tip Number One – Communicate, Communicate, Communicate. You would be surprised at the number of spouses who separate from their ex and then do not communicate with their ex about the unresolved issues. Whenever this occurs, the only communication that will exists between the spouses will be through their attorneys. The problem with communicating through attorneys is that attorney time is expensive. Unless you want to spend several thousand dollars on attorney fees, our advice is that you open and maintain a channel of communication between you and your ex. Tip Number Two – Do Not Do Anything Stupid. For purposes of this article, stupid would be you arriving at the exchange location with your new lover seated in the front passenger seat of your vehicle. Stupid would be you filing hiring an attorney or filing for divorce without first discussing the matter with your ex. Stupid would be you talking bad about your ex to the children. Tip Number Three – Try To Settle. Sometimes, the ex is so stubborn that there is almost a zero percent chance of settling the divorce outside of the court room. If your ex is one of those stubborn types, then we sympathize with you. If your ex is not one of those types, then do go ahead and communicate your desire to settle as well as the terms of settlement that you are agreeable to. Keep in mind, just because your ex refuses to settle right now, they might surprise you and be willing to settle next week, next month, or so on.
