Prayers aren’t always answered by the divine realm. Contrary to what people think, any prayer desiring a negative outcome for another living being goes unanswered. Similarly, there are several other circumstances that nullify a prayer, and it’s important to understand why this check-and-balance system is in place. In this blog, we’ll explore three different types of prayers that are unanswered, and the reasoning behind their invalidation.

1. Prayers with Ill Intent

In many cases, people pray with the intention of causing harm to other living beings. These prayers come from a place of malice, hatred, envy, contempt, prejudice, or malevolence. Unfortunately, many people believe that harmful prayers can still be answered. In actuality, bringing harm upon a living being isn’t divine. Therefore, such prayers are never answered. The desire for revenge or even the restoration of an object by taking it from someone is a slippery slope. When one wishes ill for another or prays for their wealth, beauty, status, or any other accomplishment or source of pride to be taken away, the prayer is considered inherently retributive. rnPrayers are only answered if a person requests help, not retribution. Even if they’re mortal enemies, people can’t pray harm upon each other; the prayer will simply go unanswered. We’re often asked whether there are any exceptions to this general rule. For instance, people ask if malicious prayers can be answered if the other person is a threat to their existence. The simple answer is no. Praying for destruction upon someone, no matter how deeply they have wronged you, isn’t considered divine. Hence, the prayer is always unanswered. It is, however, possible to turn a “negative” prayer into a “positive” prayer in order for it to be fulfilled. For instance, instead of praying for someone’s destruction, pray for their healing and betterment. Pray that their heart is changed and they become open to love so they stop causing harm to others. Pray that they gain awareness and seek enlightenment so they stop oppressing others. This will help resolve the problem in a way that isn’t destructive. In other words, fighting destruction with destruction or evil with evil isn’t considered divine. Fire can’t be tackled with fire; it needs a different, gentler element (water) to be extinguished. If you’ve recognized hate in another person’s heart, you can extinguish it by praying for their healing, growth, and enlightenment. This is a win for all involved because it brightens the world. Getting a perpetrator out of your neighborhood is a short-term solution; it shifts the problem elsewhere instead of addressing it. As everyone is in this together, there will be repercussions felt down the line for each person who was involved in the prayer. The problem can be truly solved through restorative prayer, not retributive prayer. Recommended: Personal Clearing

2. Prayers Made Out of Greed or Ego

Any prayer that’s made out of greed or ego goes unanswered. This is because the prayer is made to elevate oneself rather than work towards the betterment of humanity. Such a prayer isn’t honored because selfishly empowering oneself in this way creates a distortion. If granted, a prayer made out of greed or ego would result in the person being isolated from others. They would crave such a sense of pompousness and pride that their soul will never feel satisfied, no matter how much its ego is fed. This is a cycle that never slows down or comes to an end. The person would keep chasing unrealistic highs for themselves and continue to wish ill fortune for others. As a result, the disparity would ultimately result in their own doom. This is the price of ego gratification; in elevating oneself, the outcome is a distinct and undesired separation from others. There will always be consequences and while they may sound pleasant at first, it’s important to note that it’s always lonely at the top. According to Creator, “The divine realm simply doesn’t add to human folly by acting on ill-considered wishes.”

3. Prayers Arising From Fear or Doubt

In many cases, people request negative prayers that stem from fear or doubt. This has to do with their own personal beliefs that are challenged during times of crisis when people are pushed to their extremes. This can truly be a test of faith. Some may buckle under the strain and give in to their fears. According to Creator, “Being in a state of extreme fear is not the best time to launch a prayer request. We are not saying that one shouldn’t do it. However, it should only be done if the person desires safety.” As stated earlier, negative prayers are invalidated and in most cases, prayers that arise from fear or doubt are negative in nature. Those that aren’t are accepted. However, one should carefully introspect and become aware of their intention before requesting a prayer.
