Quarantines and social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic have introduced new challenges in depriving us of our usual modes of socializing and keeping ourselves busy and entertained. While we clearly recognize and honor the need to be and keep others safe, we cannot help but get restless, bored, and even depressed being stuck indoors amid a reality that is already stressful enough as it is. Thankfully, necessity is the mother of invention, and while it may not be easy to do at first, we can adapt and find new and creative ways to stay busy and active during these trying times. With all of this information in mind, the following are3 ways to keep yourself busy during the coronavirus quarantine.
Cultivate Hobbies
The first way to keep yourself busy during the coronavirus quarantine is to cultivate some hobbies. The usual routine of commuting and working often leaves little time for meaningful socialization and connection, and even less for engaging in and developing one's own personal interests and passions. But as the pandemic has forced more of us to work remotely and forego the usual venues of socializing with others, there is more of an opportunity and motivation than ever to create one's own schedule and free up some time to do things one may not normally have the time or inclination to do, such as reading or watching a new book or movie or new genres thereof, learning to bake or cook, doing some simple exercises that don't require heavy equipment, learning a new instrument you may have always wanted to learn, taking a shot atonline golf, or honing a desired craft. As one door closes, many others open. Similarly, if one can no longer keep oneself as busy through the usual means, one can always learn to create and cultivate new ones. There is also no need to limit oneself in any way to solely one hobby or interest at any given time. You can practice baking while watching a new television series, for example. There is an endless array of possibilities, so long as one is able or willing to see it.
Go Outdoors
The second way to keep yourself busy during the coronavirus quarantine is to go outdoors. This may seem like an illogical addition to this list, but the reason for being indoors and working remotely is social distancing, not necessarily the acts of going or being outdoors itself. There are many venues that have always had relatively minimal human traffic at any given time, such as nature parks, hiking trails, and one's own neighborhood. This is even truer during the pandemic with more people indoors overall. This gives a chance to get some fresh air and explore nature, though it's worth being mindful that others likely have the same desire, and therefore one will need to plan ahead if one wishes to get the most out of the experience.
Newly Connect
The third and final way to keep yourself busy during the coronavirus quarantine is to connect with others with a new perspective. The sudden and massive social upheaval brought about by the coronavirus pandemic has affected people in many ways: it has kept many people apart and even forced some people to be closer to each other than desired. In turn, this has provided a new opportunity to reevaluate the quality of the relationships in our lives and find new ways to stay connected with those who matter to us the most. This can be done through many means, such as sending a text to someone we care about simply because we can or because we may not be able to tomorrow. It can also be done by making a Skype call to someone we haven't seen in a while.
The coronavirus pandemic with its social distancing and remote working has been a trying experience for nearly all members of society, who have found themselves cut off from and yet cloistered with each other. Certainly, this would understandably cause stress and even depression in a great many of us. However, there are many ways to adapt and thrive in these hard times.
