Nearly everyone hopes to enjoy the joys of parenthood at some point in their lives. However, some prospective parents face fertility difficulties. If you are a parent facing fertility issues, there is no doubt that it can take a toll on you sometimes.

On the brighter side, there is still hope. Thanks to scientific advancements, there are plenty of alternatives to natural child conception available. For your convenience, here are four artificial conception strategies you can consider.

Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination is a medical procedure whereby a sperm cell is prepared and inserted into the uterus using a catheter. Artificial insemination is one of the most common artificial conception strategies.

It is best suited for men with a low sperm count or slow-moving sperms. It is also recommended for women who have cervical mucus that is too thick to transport the sperm. Women who react to their partner’s sperm by producing antibodies can also benefit from this procedure.

Donor Embryos

Embryo donation through institutions like Missouri Center for Reproductive Medicine is an advanced form of in vitro fertilization. In this case, an embryo is donated from couples going through IVF, but they no longer need it. For example, they miraculously become pregnant. As a result, a couple who are both experiencing infertility can benefit from the donated embryo.

This method enables infertile couples to experience the joy of parenting. However, if you want to use this strategy, it is crucial to consider extensive medical screening first. Just the way a dentist would conduct an oral exam and even x-rays before going through with any dental procedure, so should your doctor perform thorough screening procedures.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

ICSI is an interesting procedure where an embryologist extracts a healthy sperm cell from semen and injects it into an egg using a microscopic needle. Once the embryo is developed, it is inserted into the uterus through IVF. The ICSI procedure is very similar to the IVF procedure. The only difference is the method of fertilization.

In IVF, fertilization is somehow ‘natural’ since the ovum and sperm are left in a particular dish to fertilize. In ICIS, the fertilization is assisted by specialized lab equipment. This method is suitable for a couple where the man has a low sperm count.

Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT)

The GIFT method is whereby the eggs of the woman are collected and mixed in a dish. They are then placed directly into the fallopian tube of the woman for fertilization to take place. This helps women who have at least one functioning Fallopian tube. It also helps men who have sperms with poor motility. If you have moral or religious objections to IVF, then this is a suitable method for you.

In a nutshell, there are numerous artificial conception strategies. Most people are only aware of the common ones like surrogacy and IFV. These four strategies should help you widen your scope of consideration. They provide various solutions to different forms of infertility. All hope is not lost, prospective parents with fertility difficulties, can still enjoy parenthood.
