4 Common Pitfalls to Avoid When Dating Your Ex Boyfriend
Dating your ex boyfriend might be a great idea. Some relationships really are meant to be no matter how many obstacles you come across along the way. When you're making the decision about whether or not dating your ex boyfriend really is a good idea it's important to weigh all your options and recognize a few pitfalls you'd be best to avoid.
What are these common pitfalls and how can you avoid them?
1) Picking up where you left off. You should never try to pick up where you left off. It's a bad idea. If you'll recall, where you left off is broken hearted, in pain, and alone. You want to start over so that things can start off on a positive note with a new beginning and a clean slate rather than trying to make up for perceived shortcomings or wrongs in the past.
2) Jumping right into bed. It might have been a long time and he might be pushing for a physical relationship from the very start. This is not the ideal solution for you. It's a good idea to make him work for it a little bit. I don't mean that you should play games. That's never a good idea. But he'll respect you a lot more if you make him hold off for a while rather than giving in quickly for the momentary release and feel good momentum you think it might provide.
3) Bringing arguments from the past into new arguments. If you're really starting over together you have to leave the past where it belongs - in the past. You can't do that if you're constantly bringing the past right into both your laps by including the old wounds, hurts, and pains into every argument that the two of you have together. If you are too busy living in the past there is no way the two of you can have a future together. This is the number one reason that second chance relationships fail. Don't let it happen to you.
4) Failing to make plans. It's one thing to play it by ear for a little while but after a while you need to start planning for the future. Whether you're planning to buy a house together, move in together, go on a vacation together, or just buy season tickets for your favorite football team you need to be planning to do things together, as a couple, if you want your relationship to evolve, grow, and last.
