Tattoo designs are in great demand these days; perhaps people are taking to them more because of the prevailing lifestyle and fashion trends. Tattoos are often worn to improve one’s image and physical appearance. This means that tattoo artists and designers have excellent opportunities to show off their creativity.

People sometimes use this art form as their main revenue stream, while others ink patterns for just a little extra money. If you are a custom tattoo artist and want to make some extra money, you must take on board several important things to be successful. As far as I can see, there are four main things those professionals like you should consider when designing a tattoo.

The first thing they really should do is adhere to the client’s plan. Obviously, this is because it is the customer alone who will wear the tattoo. So, the designer must ask the client for the details of the design required before designing it. The designer should have as clear an understanding about the details as possible. If in doubt, he should always discuss these with the customer. Usually, clients can give only rudimentary details initially. This means that the details laid down in the project specification are not all that the client wants in his or her tattoo. Discussing the tattoo with your client will also help establish a special relationship with him or her.

The next thing you need to bear in mind is to submit work before the deadline expires. This is a very important criterion that employers consider when hiring tattoo artists. You must ensure that you hand in your design before the deadline arrives, perhaps a day before the target date of delivery. This is an indication of your dedication and discipline towards your profession. It can also serve as an avenue for you to be rehired by the same employers in future. You may even be awarded a bonus, or perhaps be paid more money in the future.

For expert tattooists like you, it is important to read around the subject of your tattoo and look for new design techniques. To be one step ahead in this business, you should find as much information as you can about the subject of the tattoo designs you do. This will give you fresh insights on the best designs prevailing today and perhaps in the future. The flip side of this is that discovering new techniques can influence the way you execute the tattoo and affect your final design. However, the best thing about tattoo techniques is that they raise your professional standing as a tattooist, and, if clients find you knowledgeable, they will be more inclined to work with you.

As a professional tattoo designer, it is necessary that you be open-minded about suggestions, alterations and revisions. This is best done by asking your clients, co-artists and friends for an honest appraisal of your overall designs. Their genuine feedback can be a source of improving your skills and designs.

So, for you, the bottom line is that to be an expert tattooist, you must work hard.
