Having a dream is essential. Getting around the right people is necessary. Getting rid of fear is key. But until you bust a move—you’re only stating a preference.
Over 1,800 years ago the Apostle James said that faith without works is dead (James 2:26 KJV). Those words have sparked numerous theological debates on the significance of works related to salvation. Though the purpose of this blog is not to debate theology (debating theology kinda sounds old and musty doesn’t it?) I do want to emphasize the truth of the Apostle’s words—faith without works is dead! Let’s put that phrase in more modern terminology—faith without corresponding actions is useless!! You gotta bust a move!
There was the story of the woman who went to her pastor to seek help about her husband. She informed her pastor that everyday her husband jumped out of bed as if he were jacked on caffeine. He would play motivating music loudly. He would say daily affirmation to himself in the mirror declaring that he was great and awesome and that he could do anything. The pastor was intrigued with what he heard and told her that her husband sounded as is her husband was a self motivated man. “BUT HE NEVER LEAVES THE HOUSE” shouted his wife.
The husband’s motivational catechism was a lot of hype. Though it felt good and look good, it was not doing him any good. Just buying motivational materials and going to self help seminars will not accomplish anything in your life. Until you take action nothing in your life will ever change. That’s right! Unless you take action nothing in your life will ever change. Taking action is the greatest thing you can do to get your life headed in the right direction.
Just being smart is not enough. You can be smart and have bad relationships. You can be smart and broke. You can be smart and obese. You can be smart and….you fill in the blank! Being smart is not enough. Taking action is what will break off the chains of mediocrity from your life and set you free. You cannot sit idly by and wait for change to land in your lap. Change will not happen just because you repeat positive affirmations every day. You must take consistent action to set things in motion that will change your life for the better.
You see where you want your life to be. You see the person you want to become. But this is the real world buddy. There ain’t no fairy god mother who is going to wave a magic wand and poof—you have your dream life. It just doesn’t happen like that. Real change and real results require real action.
There is an old proverb that says the jou
ey of a thousand miles starts with one step. That is how you must start on your jou
ey to becoming a better you. You start by taking one step at a time. Take those steps everyday and you will arrive at where you want to be. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to bust a move!

40 Days to a Better Me: Day 11-Welcome Diversity “Paw-Paw, you white.” These were the words of my two year old granddaughter spoken directly to me eye ball to eye ball. Well, she was seated her car seat and I was making eye contact with her via my rear view mirror. Anyway, the statement made me stop to figure out what she was saying.r

One of the most influential spiritual teachers of all time was Jesus of Nazareth. His teachings have inspired followers for the past two thousand years. His message of love and forgiveness has been shared on every continent and his words transcribed into numerous languages. And, each Sunday more people will be in attendance at a local house of worship than at all of the professional sporting events combined for an entire year! Yes. The life and teachings of Jesus have made an impact.r

We are just days away from the new year. This is a very festive time of year just finishing up Christmas and Thanksgiving was just a few weeks prior to that. Though this is “happy time of year” I personally do not like the time between Thanksgiving and New years for two reasons: Dark and cold. To me the holiday season seems to be the darkest and coldest time of the entire year.

A hurricane was on a collision course with Iberia Parish Louisiana. That was not uncommon. Numerous hurricanes have pummeled this portion of the Gulf Coast in the past. People in the low lying areas of Cypremort Point, Louisa and Weeks Island and moved further inland to evade the surge and flooding that would becoming that way. There was one road from New Iberia to the “Point” and if you waited to long that road would be under water and you would be unable to get away to higher ground.r
