There are many detox products you can find in the market. But why waste money if you can detoxify your body naturally?

Detoxing is a popular health trend. It is known to help lose weight, have a flawless skin, and improve overall health by removing toxins from the body. Products come in many forms; teas, juices, and capsules. You can also find diet and exercise detox programs offered in books or in fitness centers. Giving you plenty of options to detoxify your body.

However, you don’t need to buy any detox products or enroll yourself in a detoxifying program to eliminate harmful toxins from your body. Unless you have an illness that affects the normal detoxification process of your body. This is because the human body have a natural and excellent system to excrete toxins every day. Here are 5 tips to detox naturally.

  1. Have a healthy diet. What you put in your mouth plays a very important role in how your body eliminate toxins. Processed and sugary foods can cause obesity and different diseases such as: diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. These health problems can damage organs and affect how your body detoxify. The best foods to get rid of toxins are whole foods. Like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. They are easy to digest and help cleanse out body waste.
  2. Stop smoking and keep away from secondhand smoke. Cigarettes contain hundreds of toxic chemicals which build-up in the body and damage different organs especially the lungs. In general, the human body removes toxins on a daily basis. But nicotine from cigarettes and its breakdown takes up to 10 days to be fully excreted from the body.
  3. Avoid drinking alcohol. More than 90% of alcohol intake metabolized in the liver, the main organ for detoxification. The beverage can severely damage the organ causing fat buildup, inflammation, and scarring. These problems can greatly affect the functions of the liver which include removing toxins from the body.
  4. Drink lots of water. There are many drinks that claim to detoxify body but there is very little scientific evidence that proves their effectivity. The best liquid to drink when cleansing your body is still water. It flushes out toxins through perspiration and urination. Moreover, water keeps you hydrated, regulates body temperature, aids digestion, and helps absorb nutrients for your body.
  5. Have adequate sleep. Sleeping not only allow your body to rest and recharge but also remove toxins, especially from the brain, that have accumulated all throughout the day. In 2012, the glymphatic system which is most active during sleep was discovered. It is responsible for draining out toxins and other waste products from the brain. It is called the glymphatic system because it acts like the lymphatic system but is managed by brain cells called the glial cells. In addition, having enough sleep allows the brain to function well which is critical to perform better in eliminating toxins in other parts of the body.

It is tempting to buy detox products as they make detoxification sound like you just pour a liquid cleaner down in a plumbing system to unblock the pipes. But in reality, these products won’t work if you continue eating unhealthy foods or the bad habits of smoking and drinking. The best and most effective way to detox your body is by doing it naturally.
