Many busy people, with little spare time due to their working and social life, have turned to takeaway food. In order to make sure that you don’t end up ordering food that will only detriment your health and be of low nutritional value, here are five healthy food options you can choose from when ordering takeaways: Salads Most takeaways will offer salads, and just make sure to specify that you do not want any particularly fatty sauces on the salad. It is worth stressing this, as in fact many takeaway salads have been found to contain even more salt than a big mac as reported in the media. Grilled Fish When ordering fish and chips delivery, most people tend to opt for fish that has been covered with batter and deep-fried. However a much healthier option is to have the fish grilled instead, which they often coat in breadcrumbs. Often instead of chips as well you can order peas, which is a good green vegetable to have. Vegetable Stir Fry When ordering Chinese, vegetable stir-fries are better than anything deep-fried such as spring rolls or prawn crackers, and if you can, try and specify that they leave out heavy sauces. One particular ingredient that Asian takeaways often include is MSG, an additive that can seriously damage your health. So if possible, make sure they leave this out. Steamed food is another good option for Chinese takeaway, be it dumplings, buns or vegetables. Make sure that the rice you order is steamed rather than fried as well. Pizzas with Thin Bases Rather than eat thick crusts, sometimes laden with fatty cheese, go for a thin base pizza and look for options made with white cheese, vegetables, and toppings such as lean meat or seafood. It is often tempting to eat a whole pizza yourself, but more often than not, these can be shared between at least two people. Sushi Sushi is a great healthy food option, as these are low in fat, and contain healthy filings such as all kinds of fish, including Salmon and Tuna. Seaweed is also a great source of fibre and just make sure that you don’t use too much soya sauce. Scientists believe that sushi is one of the main contributing factors as to why Japanese are one of the healthiest people in the world. Do be aware though, that the small portions can be deceptive as you get carried away, eating way to many. In general if you can’t avoid ordering items on the menu that are high in fat, try at least to order them in small quantities, and make sure you get extra servings of salad and vegetables. For chips, try to request that they be cooked using healthier oils such as sunflower oil.
