A recent study has shown that two thirds of women experience hair loss at some point in life which may be either temporary or permanent in nature. But due to men dominating the hair loss headlines, hair loss in women doesn’t get as much publicity as it deserves. Hair loss cases in men are much severe than those in women but that doesn’t mean that females are immune to the problem. The most common causes for hair loss in women are:
Stress: Any kind of stress, be it emotional or physical for prolonged periods of time can lead to hair loss. Women are much more sensitive than men and hence tend to get stressed out earlier. Pressures at home and work, death of loved one or a divorce may lead to serious trauma and early hair loss. Undetected health issues such as anemia or low blood count and thyroid abnormalities can also contribute to this effect.
Genetics: If hair loss runs in your family, there is little that you can do about it. Female pattern hair loss or Androgenetic Alopecia is a genetic condition which is thought to occur in one out of every five women and can make one susceptible to losing hair.
Hormonal changes: Pregnancy, menopause and usage of birth control pills and other medications can seriously affect the estrogen levels in the body and lead to baldness.
Poor diet: If your diet comprises of foods that lack in protein or irons, then you are highly likely to experience hair fall. Additionally crash diets, bowel disease or eating disorders can all result in a thinning hairline.
Diseases: Diseases such as diabetes, lupus, overactive or underactive thyroid too can have a degenerative effect on hair.
However by taking adequate measures can arrest hair fall and in several cases can even reverse the symptoms. These are some of the things which you can do to prevent hair loss.
Make changes to your lifestyle: The most natural way to prevent hair loss is by altering your lifestyle. Have healthy diets which are rich in vitamins and also refrain from bad habits smoking and drinking. Exercise daily because work outs are known to release endorphins that can lead to hair re-growth.
Using hair loss products: Medical sciences have also advanced greatly and nowadays one can find several products ranging from hair loss tablets to hair loss shampoos. However before taking these medications, consult your doctor to check if you risk side effects from consuming them.
Hair weaving and Hair Transplant: These can be undertaken in case one has lost a drastic amount of hair or if the hair loss is irreversible. However these can provide instantaneous results but the drawback is that these undertakings can be expensive.
