5 Must visit places in Belgaum
Belgaum is a very beautiful city in the state Karnataka, the city got its name from the word ‘Bell gram’ here the word ‘Bell’ means the ‘bull’ and ‘Gram’ means village. It is believed that in ancient times these city was the market of the bull, people from all across use to come here to trade bulls. Belgaum is culturally very rich with major population of Jain, Hindu, and Muslim.
Today the city is known as the second capital of Karnataka, is has become the tourist hotspot of Karnataka, due to its many tourist attraction places.
In this article I have covered the three must visit places in Belguam, which are as follows
Kamal Basti (Basadi)
These 10th century built temple was originally called as ‘Kamal Basadi’ now which is popularly known as Kamal Basti, temple has got its name ‘Kamal’ because of its lotus like structured dome, lotus is translated as ‘Kamal’ in Sanskrit.
The beautifully structured temple was built in the time of ‘Ratta Dynasty’. The dome of the temple is structured as lotus with 72 petals, all the petals are shown with the Jain Tirthankars. The idol of the temple is lord Neminath. Today the temple has become one of those few left monumental structures of Chalukya style
Belguam Fort
The Belgaum is a well maintained fort in Belguam city, fort is subjected to many historical popular and unpopular, Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned in these fort by the British government during freedom movement struggle
The fort was built in 12th century by Ratta Dynasty. The fort has been centre of attraction for many emperors because of its strategic importance and that is what has given many stories of capture and recapture to this fort.
There is an adjoining lake to this fort, known as the fort lake, which has a floating Cafeteria. There are two very important Jain temple in the fort and one Durga temple and one mosque
Gokak water fall
The beautiful gorgeous waterfall which is one of few of those Indian water fall which is celebrated worldwide by the tourist, Gokak is another great reason for the attraction of tourist in Belgaum
the fall is the continuation of the Ghatprabha river, the spectacular 170m height of the Gokak waterfall give it a tag name of ‘Mini Niagara’. During the rainy season the thick reddish brown water sweeps far over the brink of cliff with dull road that can be heard from some distance
Jamboti hills and falls
Jamboti is located at the outskirts of the Belgaum city. The lusty green hill station is worth visiting, if you ever got to Belgaum. The richness with flora and fauna of the forest, will drench your soul with calm. If you are adventure love
or a trekker this destination must be in the top of your list. The longest river of Goa ‘Mondovi’ originates here. The place is a perfect destination for a nature lover.
Mahadev temple
This is one of the oldest and very famous temple in Belgaum, Karnataka. The temple is a Mahadev Temple, the beautiful spectacular black Shivling is reason for attraction for many thousand devotes from all over the temple.
