Children aren’t conscious as adults about the healthy habits, dos and don’ts, and they can get sick frequently. Doctors report that most of the patients at their clinics are children with occasional cold, recurring or frequent ear infections, fever, cough, sneezing, blocked nose, etc. They spend most of their time with other kids, and don’t really pay attention while sneezing. They do it into the crook of their arms and touch each other without knowing the consequences. Also, the immune systems of children aren’t strong enough to fight against bacteria. If your kid is feeling sick and no GP is open, immediately call any after hours doctor available in your area via sites like 247doctor . Additionally, if your kid is getting frequently sick, it is time for you to take a step back and know the reasons behind it. 1. Enlarged adenoids Enlarged adenoids can be one of the main reason behind the frequent sickness. The adenoids are small tissue patches in the throat like tonsils. Tonsils are visible, but adenoids are located behind the tonsils, and can’t be seen. As a part of the immune system, the adenoids trap the bacteria and virus entering the body through nose, and fight the infections. The adenoids start swelling during viral illness, and can result in blocked nose, sore throat, ear problems, breathing problems, etc. When the infection decreases, the swelling decreases and the adenoids come to their normal size. 2. Food Allergies Many children are picky eaters for certain dishes. A research shows that 1 out of every 13 children is allergic to at least one food, and around 40% of those children can experience life-threatening reactions. The food allergy in kids makes the immune system overreact, which produces antibodies to food. Such reaction can affect the breathing, intestinal tract, heart and skin. The symptoms of food allergy include runny nose, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, itching around mouth or ears, nausea, trouble breathing, stomach ache, vomiting, etc. The most common foods that cause allergy in kids are peanuts and tree nuts, eggs, fish, soy, cow milk, etc. 3. Hay fever Hay fever, or Allergic Rhinitis, is a common childhood allergy that reaches the kids every now and then. The symptoms of hay fever can be a runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, nasal congestion, and chronic ear problems. The nasal congestion causes breathing problems which leads to breathing by mouth during sleep. When the children breath through mouth, they can’t have a good sleep which impacts the growth of teeth and facial bones. If your child is suffering from asthma, the hay fever can make the things worse. It is very important to have the allergies treated as soon as possible to avoid further problems. The reasons of hay fever are the pollens and dust mites entering the nose and eyes, which causes inflammation. 4. Stinging insect allergies The insect stings cause pain, redness, swelling, flushing, and itching to the children. The severity of insect stings can be different for every person. When an insect like honey bee, wasp, yellow jacket or hornet stings a person, a lump develops at the body part. This lump goes down within an hour and forms a small blister in next few hours. The sting site then fills with pus-like material within a day. Insect stings can also result in anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction. Such reactions can occur in 0.4% to 0.8% of children and 3% adults. The anaphylaxis causes 90 to 100 deaths every year. Stinging insect allergies are visible on body and should be treated as soon as possible. 5. Drug Allergies Sometimes, the usual medications like antibiotics, aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs can result in allergy. The drug allergies can cause skin problems like hives or rashes, swelling of lips, breathing problems, nausea, belly pain, vomiting, etc. The reactions can range from mild to life-threatening. Consult the doctor and find the drug that causes allergy to your children, because that drug can do the same in future as well. On the other hand, some allergies occur when a drug doesn’t get along with another drug consumed at the same time. Final words: These are the five main reasons why your kid gets sick frequently. The kids aren’t as conscious as us regarding the healthy lifestyle, and the allergies can occur any time. Educating them and consulting the doctor at the right time are the answers to decrease their frequency of sickness.
