Look around and you will see them everywhere, spreading fear, downplaying your accomplishments and making your life downright miserable. If you have a vision to live a happier, less stressed, balanced, adventurous life then you are going to have to take the lead and deal with these naysayers, complainers and pessimists immediately. Are you ready for the take down? Okay, here’s how you can get started. 1. Keep the conversation simple. Hey, if you know that you are around someone who is going to kill your joy and put down your brilliant ideas then avoid it all together. Keep your ideas and dreams to yourself and share them only with people who get it and get you. Instead, you can talk about American Idol, America’s Got Talent or Last Comic Standing. Or maybe you can talk about the yummy ice-cream you had a few days back. It’s okay to protect yourself and your dreams, by keeping the conversation simple. 2. Get Rid of Them. I know this sounds harsh, but did you know that on average we tend to earn what our friends earn. It’s a proven fact. You know the saying, “Birds of a feather, flock together.” I would think that we also dream, take action and live according to the same standard. If you are hanging out with people who don’t feed your soul and encourage you to be your best, then it might be time for you to say good-bye. 3. Keep your eye on the prize and ignore the negativity. Keep your goal in sight and keep that as your motivation to move forward and prove them wrong. You can simply ignore it and laugh it off, because you know you can’t trust someone who has never been to where you’re going. 4. Don’t tell family, until… If you have family that has a hard time understanding what you’re doing, try to keep it to yourself until you have made some progress. That way you have proof that what you’re doing is important. And remember, your family is only trying to protect you. They just want what’s best for you. 5. Deal with your own inner-naysayer. The beautiful thing about being born is you were born free with no pre-conceived notions or ideas. You hadn’t yet spent hours in front of the TV or with family and friends feeding you fear-based information. Now that you want to take a leap into following your vision, you now have to face yourself and your own beliefs. Challenge yourself, just as you would challenge your friends and family, by confronting and questioning your inner-naysayer. The more you deal with your own negative thoughts, the easier it will be to handle other people’s thoughts of you.
