As an individual living in a large society, it can feel pretty isolating and lonely at times. This is one of the reasons why it’s important to maintain a strong connection with your local community. Your community is made up of your family, friends, co-workers and more. Your neighbors, the store clerks and a host of other people make up your community. While it is difficult to hang out with everyone on a weekly basis, there are ways you can show people you care about them. Consider some great ways to show love from a distance.

Give them a call

One of the reasons why so many people don't pick up the phone to call is because they're busy. However, it's really about getting creative with the way you use your time. When you're folding laundry, pick up the phone to call a friend. Put the speaker on, and fold at the same time. If you know you'll get stuck in traffic for a while, connect your phone to your car speakers to enjoy a conversation with someone for a few minutes.

Send flowers

Flowers are extremely thoughtful. Since no one expects to receive them in the mail, it's always a nice surprise when they show up. Order some 'just because' flowers to a friend who's been on your mind for a while. Flower delivery can be one of the best ways to brighten a person's day.

Order their favorite meal

Next to a bouquet of flowers, it's really nice to deliver someone's favorite meal to their doorstep. If it's a family member and you already know their favorite meal, there are plenty of services that allow you to pay for the food, delivery process and the tip. After a long day at work, it's a great feeling to come home to hot food from a friend.

Write a letter

Whether you do this once a month or once every other week, get into the habit of sending snail mail to your family members and friends. It's a nostalgic experience to receive a handwritten card. You can add a few pieces of candy, a gift card or a small gift.

Send an encouraging morning text

When someone sends an encouraging morning text, this tells you that they're thinking of you and rooting for you. Whether you're headed to the office or bracing yourself for a long day with the kids, an encouraging text can be just the boost a person needs. Depending on your mood, choose the option that works the best. If there are times when you're overwhelmed with work, you might not want to talk to anyone. However, that doesn't mean you should avoid them. Instead, send some flowers. Send a card if that's easier. When you put effort into the way you reach out, it can mean a lot to someone on the receiving end.
