5 Steps All Businesses Need to Take for Employee & Product Security
A company is not going to make money if it is giving away its goods and services. It will also have a hard time providing those goods or services without the help of qualified employees. Therefore, business owners need to make sure that their people and products are properly protected. What are some ways to accomplish this goal?
Have an Alarm System in the Store or Office
One way to keep your people and products safe is to have an alarm system installed by a trusted company, such as Tele-Plus, in your store or building. This can alert anyone inside to a potential intruder and allow them to call for help if necessary. It may also be loud enough to scare a potential intruder away before he or she gets into the building.Put Specialized Locks on the Front of the Building
To ensure that only authorized personnel get inside the building, each employee should be given a key code or some other password. They would need to either enter the code at the door or swipe an ID badge to gain entry. It may also be worthwhile to use a person's fingerprint or retina as his or her ticket to getting inside an office building or other sensitive area.Lock All Expensive or Popular Items
If your store sells a video game console or another toy that is going to be a mega hit this year, it should be locked behind a glass case. Alternatively, it may be locked behind a service counter where customers would have to ask a team member to get it for them. This ensures that expensive items are not taken out of the store before they are paid for or without the knowledge of at least one employee.Loss Prevention Staff Should Be Nearby at All Times
A loss prevention employee should either be in the store or at a nearby location whenever the store is open. This person should have the authority to call police or other emergency services if necessary to prevent theft or other crimes from being committed.Keep the Place Lit Up
Lit parking lots and employee escorts should be available late at night to ensure that they get to and from their cars safely. This is especially important if you have employees working the night shift or coming in really early in the morning before the sun comes up. Security should be a top priority for all companies. Installing alarm systems, custom locks and having loss prevention staff all act as deterrents to criminals and help keep your people safe. Even if you can't catch someone in the act, taking these steps may make it easier to eventually find and hold a criminal accountable for his or her actions.Further reading
