I attended the first wedding for the spring season last weekend, something I had mixed feelings about for the last few months. I mean, I was completely ecstatic my cousin was marrying one of my best friends from college, it was just that... Here's the thing. I suffer from severe allergies. While most people are glad to be out of the cold wintery months, I dread it. Come spring, however, when the birds are out singing, baby lambs are being born and the Easter bunny is preparing to do his rounds....those are the months I want to lock myself in a bubble and wait patiently for it all to be over. Unfortunately for me, the wedding was not only at the beginning of spring, it was outdoors. If you're as unfortunate as myself, you'll attend the grand affair slightly high from all the anti-histamines you took from stopping your nose from exploding. Besides that, my cousin had certainly done well in preparing for his gala event. I'm sure him having an amazing cousin in the wedding industry probably helped a lot. Are you planning a spring wedding? Here are a few survival tips. 1. Be prepared for weather-emergencies. Unless you live in California, where rain is a rarity, having a tent/umbrellas on the ready is a must! On the other hand, also be prepared for a burst of warmer weather. Printing your wedding programs into a fan is perfect for this. 2. If it rains, chances of mud are very high. Add some fun and color with rain boots or protect your shoes by slipping your feet into plastic bags and securing them with rubber bands. Along with the tent, have some carpeting ready, so your guests aren't stomping through mud. 3. For late afternoon weddings outdoors, or if you're having an outdoor reception, have a supply of insect repellent ready for your guests, or strategically place insect repelling incense around the area. You can buy insect repelling candles, which can double up as your lighting. Tres romantic. 4. Try featuring a lemonade stand! Of course, for adults, you can serve 'spiked' lemonade. 5. Having naturally wavy hair, the bride's worst fear was her hair turning into a frizzy mess. Instead of getting it straightened or put in an up-do, she chose to embrace her waves and applied an abundance of anti-frizz serum and hairspray. The result was natural, wavy hair that flowed down her shoulders. Beautiful! My cousin's wedding was perfect. The setting was gorgeous, the food was amazing, and the whole time, I only sneezed once. Now that's what I call a successful wedding.
