5 Tips To Improve Computerâs Speed And Performance
Consumer laptop and desktop purchasing are at an all-time low due to the declining economy. Even corporate purchasing of these items has hit a record low. Except for Apple. Their sales continue strong.
For those of us who don’t have the luxury of going out and buying a brand new Apple computer, or any other computer for that matter, let me give you some tips to help you keep your computer running smoothly and quickly.
First, run one program at a time on your computer. If that’s not possible, run less. Cutting down by even one or two programs at a time can improve your computer’s performance. When you finish with a program, make you sure close it. When you click on a link and it opens a new browser, close the previous one if you are finished with it.
Another way to insure that your computer continues running efficiently is by keeping your anti-viruses and anti-spyware up to date.
Third, check the programs that start-up when you log into your computer. You can find this information under the Start menu, and then by clicking on All Programs and then Startup. All of the programs there will automatically run each time you log into your computer. If you don’t need a program to begin right away, remove it from this folder. The more programs that there are in this folder, the longer it will take for your computer to be ready to use when you login.
Another tip to improve your computer’s performance is to clean up your computer’s registry. This is where the files are kept that tell your computer how to run. Over time, these files can become corrupt. Look for registry cleaning software and download it onto your computer. This should also be run after scanning your computer for viruses.
Finally, upgrade the RAM (this is the memory of your computer). If there’s not enough memory, your computer will slow down.
Most importantly, don’t let the waning state of the economy prevent you from having a computer that runs efficiently. Try these steps and your computer’s performance is guaranteed to improve.
