Mastiffs are large-sized dog breeds with a muscular body and lots of power. They are among the ancient breeds and dates back to about 3,000 years ago. The Mastiffs have been used as guard dogs, war dogs, hunting dogs, and for blood sports legally and illegally. There are over 30 types of Mastiff breeds around the world and most popular of them are Boerboel, Bullmastiff, Cane Corso, Great Dane, Rottweiler, and many others. But in this post, we are going to feature 5 uncommo Mastiff breeds which are popular in their origin countries only. So, let's start with the Bully Kutta first. 1: Pakistani Mastiff Locally known as a Bully Kutta or just a Bully, it is one of the most popular dog breeds in several areas of Pakistan and India. Because of its aggressiveness and energetic personality, it is also popular as the beast from the east. Moreover, it is highly intelligent, smart, and an excellent companion that makes the best watchdog. Unfortunately, this beautiful dog breed has been used for blood sports in both countries. 2: Pyrenean Mastiff The Pyrenean Mastiff is a Spanish dog which was originally bred for protection of livestock but now it has been used as the pet dogs. Not much popular outside Spain, it is an intelligent and protective dog breed that makes an ideal watchdog. In the first look, this smart breed from Aragon feels like a beast, but in fact, it is very noble and gentle. That's why it is an ideal playmate for children. 3: Tibetan Mastiff The Tibetan Mastiff is another large boy in this list which is a powerful and muscular dog breed from Tibet. It is among one of those breeds that don't shed but blow their coat at least once a year with the change of the season. The Tibetan Mastiff is a smart, intelligent, and noble breed. Interestingly, according to a study, there is a relationship between the Tibetan Mastiff and Rottweiler, Be ese Mountain Dog, Great Pyrenees, and Saint Be ard. 4: Fila Brasileiro Also known as a Brazilian Mastiff, this aggressive and unforgiving dog breed was developed in Brazil as a cattle dog and guard dog but this breed also does well as a hunting dog. Fila Brasileiro is either a product of old Bulldog, Bloodhound, and English Mastiff or a cross betwee Spanish and Portuguese dogs. 5: Canary Mastiff Canary Mastiff or Canary Catch Dog another large-sized dog breed from the Canary Islands that was bred for working livestock. It has a thick muscular body with lots of energy. This aggressive breed needs lots of training and early socialization or they may be very dangerous. At least 2 cases reported in 2001 and 2017 when the Canary Mastiffs killed a human in their attacks. Because of their aggressiveness, they have also been used as a fighting dog.
