Do you own your own small business? If so, chances are that the bulk of your client base is people from the area you are working from. How would you like to greatly expand your business by making it global? Thanks to the Internet, this is not nearly as hard as it would have been 20 years ago. In fact, it is a very simple thing to make your products and services available to the entire world. There is more than just the benefit of having the ability to greatly expand your customer base. You also get some opportunities that you otherwise would not, including the chance to travel to different places all over the world in order to do business. If you would like to take your business to the global level, here are five things you can do to make the road a little bit easier: Don't be afraid to have big dreams, and to actually go for them: There is no such thing as a dream that is too big. If you want something badly enough, you will do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. Why should you bother with small dreams anyway? Jack Canfield states in his book The Success Principles, that any dream takes time to achieve, so why not dream big in the first place. Never limit yourself when you can achieve so much more, and don't listen to those who would crush your dreams by telling you that you are crazy. If you want something, including a global business, dream it and go for it. Create systems, and keep things well documented: Whether you are going global or not, this is something that is incredibly important for any business. You need to have a plan in place with every step that you are going to take to provide services to your customers, local and global. Everything must be based on a particular system, and it is often a good idea to create your business in a way that it can later be franchised or licensed in order for you to grow even more. Have all of your systems well documented, so they can be referred to at any time, and so that they can be used as a reference for others when you are not around. Know your markets, and know how to sell to them: Whether you are doing domestic or international business, it is important that you really learn about your market. Find out the wants and needs of your customers, and do what you can to give them exactly what they are looking for. This means that you are going to have to approach people, which can be difficult at first, but the more you do it, the better you will get at it. This is a skill that must be developed, or, you can hire others to do your marketing for you if this is not something that you feel you are overly skilled at yourself. It is just important that you reach out to your customers, local and global, and taking this initiative is the first important step to global business success. You need to scale up if you want to go global. If going global is what you want, then you must take the right steps to ensure your success. If it is possible, set up offices in other countries. You should have a global e-commerce site, and a call centre is a great way to provide service to customers all over the world, of course with a toll-free number. Travel to meet investors and clients, or at least send a representative. Do whatever it takes to scale up and make your business global. Have a virtual sales-force: You can promote your business globally without having to do a whole lot of the work yourself when you take advantage of using a virtual sales-force. This involves asking other Internet entrepreneurs and publishers to promote your business on their websites, blogs and newsletters. This is becoming a very popular way to market businesses, and if you offer the best commissions, these other business owners will go out of their way to help you. Imagine being able to get sales 24 hours a day without actually having to work 24 hours a day!
