5 Ways To Deal With Frustration
You’re trying your best to get through a task but you’re bumping into problems, issues, and roadblocks or are just really frustrated that you’re even here right now. Sometimes there is no worse feeling than frustration. When your frustrations have built-up so much that you begin to break down, have fits, feel irritable or even rage, it’s time to make some changes. Don’t be alarmed. Frustration is a natural, healthy human emotion that we all feel. However, it’s not a pleasant feeling. It’s time to conquer your frustrations.
Here are 5 ways to deal with your frustration:
1. Remind yourself that where you are is just temporary. Once you’ve jumped this hurdle and completed the task, your frustration will be gone and you will be well on your way to happier days. The best thing is knowing that you don’t have to live with this feeling forever. Use this as motivation to get you through the task as quickly and smoothly as possible.
2. Slow down and breathe. Take a minute to slow down and just breathe deeply. When you focus on breathing deeply, it relaxes your body and calms your mind. This will take some of the edge off of the moment so that you can think clearly on how to get through the rest of the task with some ease.
3. Keep your eye on the prize. The task may seem daunting and frustrating right now, but think about the big reward that’s coming at the end. If trying to reach a goal, think of how satisfied, happy, relieved, or proud you will feel to know that you’ve accomplished your goal. You can also think about how much richer, smarter, or well off you will be after you complete the task. Stay on track using what you will gain in the end as a motivator.
4. Step away and do something different. If you just can’t get over your frustrations, stop and take an hour break. During this break, don’t think about the problem, do something relaxing. Go for a walk or listen to music. This will give you a chance to let off some steam, re-group, and come back with a fresh, calm mind. The problem will not go away, but your mind will be in a better state to deal with it. The answer to the problem may even come to you when you’re not thinking about it.
5. Take it one step at a time. Rather than focus on the mountain that’s in front of you, focus on just a small step. It’s good to know the big picture but sometimes the big picture can be overwhelming. Narrow your focus to what you know and can complete right now. This will help build momentum to finish the task. As you go along, you may find the answer to a problem comes to you more easily. Then you can fix it and move on to the next step.
Don’t let your frustrations ruin your day. Take a moment to deal with them so they don’t get the best of you. Whatever you do, never give up. Get passed the feeling then finish what you set out to accomplish.
