5 weight-loss myths exposed & debunked so you can achieve your optimal weight As I was doing research for most effective weight-loss programs, I discovered there is too much misinformation about weight-loss on the Web. People that say they are experts are infiltrating your minds with myths that are absolutely FALSE! Obesity is a serious medical condition that can be managed effectively. Are you ready to achieve and maintain your optimal weight for life? You can achieve this too, if only you didn’t believe these 5 myths… Myth 1: Crash dieting or fasting makes you lose weight Fact: Kelly D. Brownell, Ph.D., at Yale University, coined the term yo-yo dieting. What he was referring to was repeated loss and regain of body weight due to crash dieting and fasting. Initially one can lose a significant amount of weight by doing this. However maintaining this weight-loss is not possible over time due to: · High water and muscle mass loss · Boredom and high dropout rate · Increased carbohydrate craving · Slowing of basal metabolic rate due to starvation response which leads to: o Increased hunger and appetite o carbohydrate craving · Temporary way of eating and not how you normally eat · Lack of energy and fatigue This will cause most people to gain their weight back and then some. Initially person may experience excitement at their weight-loss effort however eventually one reverts back to their old eating habits and the cycle continues. Myth 2: You have to lose a lot of weight to become healthy Fact: Losing as little as 5-10% of body fat content will give you tremendous health benefits including: Reduce risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetesrnIncrease stamina and energy throughout the dayrnIncreased mental alertness and clarityrnReduced inflammationrnImproved appearancernIncreased self esteem and feeling of accomplishment Myth 3: You need to have a lot of willpower Fact: Although making a commitment about your weight-loss program is important in the long term, an occasional slip-up does not have to derail your entire weight-loss effort. At Transition Life Style Program we teach our clients sound behavioral modification techniques that will enable them to get back on track if they occasionally indulge on their favorite foods. Myth 4: Skipping meals will help me lose weight.rnFact: Paradoxically, skipping meals may actually cause you to gain weight! Studies indicate that when you skip meals and go hungry you are more likely to make wrong food choices and eat foods that will contribute to weight gain. This is what we call the starvation response. When you skip meals your brain sends a signal to your body to slow down your metabolism and you get overly-hungry when go too long without eating. We encourage our client never to go hungry to prevent this from happening. In fact when you skip, you're more likely to take in extra calories later in the day to compensate. Myth 5: Certain foods groups are "good" others are "bad"rnFact: You should eat from all food groups including carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. You never have to eliminate entire food groups. Losing weight is easy but keeping it off permanently is difficult with traditional diets. We encourage our clients to make a commitment to yourself that you will monitor your diet and follow a sensible low glycemic index diet with emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain complex carbohydrates, lean cuts of meats, and other high quality proteins low fat dairy products while reducing simple carbohydrates. Transitional Life Style program is not a diet fad and it is not a quick fix. It is designed to improve your health and maintain your healthy weight for life.
