The 5 biggest marketing mistakes I have seen (and done myself!) are things that can be easily corrected. It's been said that "A problem identified is a problem half solved," so after personally coaching hundreds of people, and seeing everything from miserable failure to fantastic success, here's my list of five deadly marketing mistakes, hopefully it can help you in your marketing efforts.

1. Not getting started. Yup, seems pretty obvious, but this has got to be number one by a long way. Question: why do we buy programs, courses and books, learn some great ideas and techniques, but not take action? Purchasing information can be like a drug, it feels good at the time, but leaves us worse off than we were before. That's how too many people treat the very information that can help them be successful.

2. Bad Philosophy. OK, I know that may sound weird, but I'm convinced it's another huge reason people don't succeed in their online marketing efforts. They have bad philosophies. Here's some samples of destructive philosophies:nn-"How quickly will this work?" That's a killer. It's a nonsensical question. It doesn't matter how long it took the people in the testimonials, it doesn't matter how long it took anybody. Your story is your story. It will probably take longer than you hope, but if you quit it's guaranteed to never work for you. Don't waste time thinking about something that is impossible to predict. You might succeed faster or slower than others, but the only way to know how long it takes is to persist until you succeed.nn-Lack of faith. There's a whole crowd of people out there who've bee
"ripped off." They can tell you how every program and course didn't work for them. The only problem is that every successful marketer out there has bought a ton of e-books, courses, and seminars, some better than others, but they have an attitude of extraction: they get something valuable out of every one of them, and when they're successful they attribute much of their success to the massive pile of training they purchased.

These are just a couple of examples of bad philosophies that lead to failure. The key is to do a "check-up from the neck up" and make sure we hold positive thoughts, faith, and attitudes that will get us where we want to be.

3. Lack of skills. This is what separates the "push button, do it for me" crowd from the real pros. There aren't any millionaire marketers out there who have no skills. Not one of them can attribute their success to a certain system, black hat technique, or mentor. At the end of the day, you have to be a great student, absorbing every webinar, e-book, course and seminar you can get your hands on, and applying everything, going through the process of trial and error.

4. Company-itis. This is where a marketer comes to the marketplace with a company or product they are totally in love with, and starts a "push marketing" campaign, trying to push their company on people. It's a natural thing for people who love something to expect everybody else to love it, but online it "just aint so." The key is to find out what your market is looking for, and deliver that. Once they know you, like you, and trust you, you can introduce your passion to them.

5. Inconsistency. Even if you have the skills, good philosophies, and a good work ethic, if you don't spend daily time on your business you probably won't build any momentum. One small thing daily that improves your business trumps seven things on Saturday every time. It's the small, simple things that repeated over time produce results. Smooth, slow rolling is a whole lot better than constant starting and stopping.

If you take each of these five things and turn them into a positive, you get:nn-Get started!
-Develop successful thinkingn-Improve your skillsn-Market what your customer already wantsn-Be consistent

That's a solid recipe for success.
