Gaining confidence is something that we all may feel the need to do some stage in our lives. In our minds we have a picture of ourselves and a perceived idea of our strong and weak points. This self image that we have of ourselves begins at childhood, and develops as we get older. This image isn’t always how we would like it to be and can have an effect on gaining confidence if you suffer from low self esteem.
The cause of low self esteem has never been pin pointed, and various studies have highlighted different problems. The results are inconclusive because of the different opinions on the causes. An example of this is that some studies show that social and personal problems are irrelevant to self esteem issues, whilst others show that society’s troubles do bare some relation to self esteem problems.
There are numerous ways of dealing with self esteem issues, and action you can take during your everyday activities for gaining confidence, which will make you feel better in yourself.
#1.Try to look at any situation in a positive way. Look for the good in adverse circumstances. Your self esteem will not be helped by a pessimistic view. An example of viewing things positively is if you lose your job. Don’t consider it the end of the world, see it as a chance to try something completely different, and maybe more enjoyable.
#2. Be brave and face the things that you are scared of. This may be difficult situations or actual objects. Challenging you fears will give yourself a sense achievement and lead you to gaining confidence to face your next hurdle. You will certainly feel better about yourself even after the smallest of achievements.
#3. Self motivation is a good way at gaining confidence. By motivating yourself you will believe that you can achieve anything. Sporting events or inspiration from other people’s achievements can provide the drive to get you motivated.
#4. The people that you socialise with can have an effect on your self esteem. Try to mix with positive people and people who treat you well and have respect for you. This will help to boost your self esteem. People who are positive and optimistic will have a positive effect on you gaining confidence.
#5.Be persistent in everything that you do. There may be times when things don’t go according to plan, but by not giving up you will feel proud of what you have achieved. You will be gaining confidence knowing you can achieve results by not giving up. The easy option is to give up too easily but sometimes being persistent can be very rewarding.
It is a common belief that you can be more successful if you feel good about yourself. If you complete something to be proud of, then don’t be afraid to give praise to yourself. Make sure you value yourself and recognize your own self worth. Be proud of your achievements and abilities ensuring that you continue gaining confidence in the process.
