rn1) In a study by The Learning House, 44% of online students reported improvements in their employment standing, for example by obtaining a full-time job within 12 months of graduation, and 45% reported a salary increase. 2) According to research pertaining to transformations in the online education system, almost 33% of students pursuing higher education in the USA are taking online courses of their respective interests. 3) In 2011, a group of researchers from various universities across the USA used online tutoring to assess how college algebra students could improve their grades in the field. They analysed gains achieved by students over time. What they found was that students who frequently used online tutoring made significantly greater gains (gains are measured by their test scores) than those who didn’t have access. 4) A UK research study from the Further Mathematics Support Programme of the Mathematics in Education and Industry used an online tutoring system on three groups of students over the age of 16. Group 1: Students who used the online tutoring platform for “Further Mathematics” (a subject known to be difficult) Students found the online tutoring system that they used to be a “crucial” part of their learning, allowing them to get the correct support for such a demanding subject as Further Mathematics. They also discovered that they were able to concentrate without any issues during the online tutoring session. They were fully engaged throughout the experience. The efficiency and the amount of material covered was also comparable and equivalent to that of a in-person tutoring session. Group 2: Students who used the online tutoring platform for “supplemental learning”. Used when the student needed some extra help in a particular field. Students found that the online tutoring platform provided them with peace of mind and confidence. They also were satisfied that the platform had provided for their need for extra support’. This was significant, especially given the demands of supplemental learning with very limited contact hours with their regular tutor. Group 3: Students who used the online tutoring platform for live review sessions. These students had the highest praise of all for the online tutoring platform. They expressed that it was a high-quality revision resource. They found that the material was delivered to them in a manner that made it much easier for them to understand. With the efficiency of the lesson format, and the lack of commute time, students were able to focus on what they needed to review for the exam. At the end of the day, the decision to choose between online or in-person tutoring comes down to how efficient students want to be with their time and money while keeping teaching quality in mind.
