Plastic surgery in India has gained a lot of tractionsince the last decade, within the country as well as globally, with more than 96,000 medical tourists seeking plastic surgery coming to India till June 2017. Indian cosmetic and plastic surgery sector is growing by 22% - 32%. The number of patients is increasing year by year. The reason for India becoming a global favourite for plastic surgery (No. 4 on the list of countries with most plastic and cosmetic surgeries performed) is its relatively low cost of procedures. However, plastic surgery is after all a surgery, and like any surgery complications can arise. Knowing about the risks of a procedure is very important before going for a procedure. Here are 6 common complications according to plastic surgeons in Patna, which can occur in a plastic surgery procedure you should know about, and discuss with your surgeon before going for the procedure.

  1. Haematoma

Haematoma can occur in about 1% to 6% of breast augmentation procedures, and is also common after a facelift. Itis aswelling of clotted blood that looks like a large bruise.
  2. Nerve Damage

Nerve damage may be present after any surgical procedure, and can lead to numbness or tingling in the affected part. Sensation may be lost to an extent on the part operated on as well.
  3. Infection

Although rare, infection can still occur. Cellulitis, which is a kind of skin infection is the most common of infection to occur after plastic surgery, and occurs in 2% to 4% of people who undergo plastic surgery. Infections require anti-biotics to treat.
  4. Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or Pulmonary EmbolismrnDVT

is a condition in which blood clots from inside the deep veins, which can break off and travel to the lungs causing pulmonary embolism. This condition can be fatal, although is relatively rare after plastic surgery procedures.
  5. Scarring

Scarring can occur after surgery, which is sometimes a concern for people as the whole point of cosmetic surgery is to improve looks. Scarring that looks bad, like hypertrophic scarring, which is a raised red scar, occurs in about 2% to 5% people.
  6. General Dissatisfaction With Appearance

Although most people are satisfied with the outcome of their surgery, certain people are not, as they expect too much of the procedure or the surgeon. Unfortunately, there is no cure for disappointment.

Even the best plastic surgeon in India cannot guarantee that there will be no complications after a procedure. Surgery in itself is a serious medical treatment procedure, and complications are a risk that a patient has to take. Having said that, the risk is minimal to begin with, and shouldn’t interfere with one’s decision to undergo surgery.
