Holidays with kids can be joyful if you plan things well. Cruises are a wonderful choice for a family vacation as everyone can spend time together and yet enjoy separate activities without getting in the way. When planning a cruise trip with children choose a trip which is not planned for romantic getaways or for senior citizens. Choose a trip where the destinations are fun and the ship has special activity programs for kids.
Before deciding on a cruise talk to friends and family who have been on a cruise with children and find out what was positive and what could have been avoided. Get their recommendations.
Here are a few ideas that will help you have a wonderful family vacation on the high seas:
1. Plan the holiday with your kids. Log on to the internet and view all the many possibilities. Read through the brochures and let your kids make suggestions and choose trips which they think will be fun.
2. Choose a trip which covers many destinations where there are great festivals and activities—it could be a carnival, a beach festival, or water sports. Consider what each member would enjoy, from bird watching to sailing or shopping.
3. Once the cruise is booked get the kids to research on the places they will see and what activities are there at each port or on ship. Get brochures, make notes, and plan great togetherness trips.
4. Pack cameras, note books, Cds, games, snacks of smaller kids, and toys as well as story books. Kids tend to get bored and need variety so make time to speak to the cruise director about the kids and find out what on ship programs for kids are like.
5. Plan to spend times with the kids and away from the kids. After all it is a holiday for everyone and it is a time for recuperation and rejuvenation. Use supervised kid’s care centers present on board for the little ones and allow the older kids to spend time on their own once they understand basic rules.
6. Let go all inhibitions and let the holiday become an adventure for one and all. Plan food adventures, picnic with the kids, swim and play ball. Consider dancing with the older kids at dinner-dance programs. Join in on board competitions and group activities. Get off the ship at each port and take in the sights and experiences. A ship can get restricting for kids so trips on land will pepper cruising with other activities like playing on a beach, shopping, visiting a fort or castle.
Decide I am going to enjoy my time with the kids. Let the holiday become an adventure for adults and kids. A cruise can be a memorable vacation for one and all if planned well and what is more cruises are often far more affordable than a holiday at an exotic location or beach.
