1. Christopher McCandles was played by Emile Hirsh in "Into the Wild"

McCandles decided to hit the US after graduating. He sold everything he had, donated to charity, and ended up in Alaska, where he kept a diary in which he chronicled his last years in the coldest state of the country. He died in 1992, after getting intoxicated with moldy potato seeds.

One of America's most famous cooks, Julia Child had a rather humorous way of presenting her recipes on a TV show. She started cooking at the age of 32, after taking a course at the famous Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, since she was not so skilled with food. She died of kidney failure in 2004, 2 days after completing 92 years.

3. Aaron Ralston was played by James Franco in "127 Hours"

Mountaineer, traveler and adventurer, Ralston gained notoriety after suffering an accident in a canyon in which he had his arm stuck under a rock in 2003. Without getting help, he ended up cutting his cock with a penknife. He is currently 42 years old.

4. Colonel Claus von Stauffemberg was played by Tom Cruise in "Operation Valkyrie"

Officer of the German army in the middle of World War II, the colonel led a group that aimed to kill Adolf Hitler and oust Nazism from power in Germany. A bomb attack orchestrated by the group happened on July 20, 1944 and killed 4 people, in addition to injuring 11 others. Hitler, however, survived with minor injuries. The next day, the group attempting to implement the coup was discovered and shot.

Gates's story is well-known: he is one of the founders of Microsoft and stayed in the company until 2008. He is one of the largest billionaires in the world and one of the people who donates more money to charity. In 1999, the first years of his journey were counted in a telefilm that was nominated for 5 Emmys.

6. Oskar Schindler was played by Liam Neeson in "Schindler's List"

Schindler was a German businessman who helped save at least 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. He was someone who was interested only in profit to get these people to work in their factories, but in fact he was trying (and succeeding) to save their lives from the death camps.

Nash is a North American mathematician who won the Nobel Prize in economics after formulating the Nash equilibrium, a concept about game theory in which one can notice stability even when two or more people are in opposite situations. He died in 2015, the victim of a traffic accident, at age 86.
