Coffee is the second most consumed drink in the world, after plain water. Millions of people start their day with a hot mixture of sugar and coffee. It helps them to focus on the day in a better way. Coffee contains caffeine. It is a stimulant which works on the nervous system. In large amounts, caffeine can be harmful. It can cause severe medical conditions. • Irregular sleeping pattern:

Normal humans need at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep at night. If you notice that you are not getting enough sleep, or you go to bed late and wake up late, you might wonder what is the reason behind it? The answer can be an excess consumption of coffee. It is true especially for working class people. Businessmen, researchers, writers, etc. tend to work late. They choose coffee as a way to keep going on. But this leads to irregular sleeping habits.

• Unknown allergy or illness:

Now, this case is not directly related to overdose of coffee. However, it is a known fact that most people do not clean their coffee makers frequently. This leads to accumulation of a slimy oil film on the inner tubing and pot. Germs and bacteria grow in such conditions. This can lead to an upset stomach or an allergy. • Anxiety issues:

Coffee works as a starter for many people. It boosts the brain and body. Still, if moderation is neglected, anxiety can be a result of too much coffee. Constant feeling of worthlessness, suicidal tendencies, depression are all the symptoms of excess consumption of coffee.

• Bipolar tendencies:

People with bipolar tendency behave erratically. They feel a sudden uplift in mood followed by periods of severe downfall. Coffee can worsen the situation. The boost provided by caffeine can keep a person smiling, sure. But not for long. When the effects ware-off, the person can drown in a sea of sadness. • Caffeine dependency:

Without much thinking, people drink 6-7 cups of coffee daily as to work longer. They prioritize their wealth over health. This is sweet at the moment. But this habit is bad. When such a person tries to stay away from the coffee machine, they feel nausea, headaches, stomach ailments, etc. These are the symptoms of caffeine withdrawal. Hence people become slaves against coffee.

• An early onset of heart diseases:

People as young as 25 may suffer from a stroke. This is a harsh reality of today’s world. Drinking excess coffee can lead to these conditions of heart which may occur in old age, otherwise. The stimulant caffeine, is a vasodilator. Meaning it widens the artery. This leads to increase blood pressure, irregular heart-beat patterns, etc. Hence the chances of stroke or other heart diseases increase substantially.

• Lethargy caused by coffee:

Teenagers who spend their morning in their beds with smartphones, depend on coffee to jumpstart the day. This however, results in them consuming more than the recommended limit of coffee. The situation worsens if black coffee is used. Teens feel lethargic by the end of day even when they consumed a nerve stimulant whole day. The reason is, although caffeine is a booster, but coffee is a complex beverage. It can cause sleepiness.
